Source file is corrupted. Patch 2.0

I keep getting the error: «An error occurred while trying to copy a file: The source file is corrupt.»

I have tried redownloading with a different browser, downloading the launcher version of the patch, and running as administrator, and I still get the error. Anyone else have this problem? Were you able to fix it?

Oh and I also reinstalled the game from scratch, but that didn’t work either.

You can’t download the patch or you can’t install it?

Coz in the first case, I have downloaded it with Firefox Down Them All. There are more downloader acceletors on the web. Sometimes I skipped that problem using apps like those.

Nah, it downloads fine but when I try to install it I get that message.

tommy5761

Are you temporarily disabling antivirus before applying the patch ?

Tried it, didn’t work :(

tommy5761

I haven`t gotten the patch yet…satellite internet and if i do before the hours of 2-7 am i`ll exceed caps which is a bummer . My purpose would be to provide a MD5 to make sure that you have a full and working patch .

Usually though when you get a source file is corrupted it generally means your download was broken .

EDIT : Just checked the size of the download and i got 907 MB if you hover your mouse over the 2.0 patch what size does yours show ?

It says 907 MB. I tried downloading with Firefox several times and with Chrome. I also downloaded through the launcher and attempted to use that file and it had the same issue.

tommy5761

Are you running any mods at all ?

Not since the fresh install. I’m gonna try downloading it on my brothers computer and saving it to a USB stick.

EDIT: That didn’t work either.

Are you a Steam user? If so, you need to use the Steam version of the patch.

(Ignore me if you’re not a Steam user)

tommy5761

OK was able to get the patch this morning . Below is the MD5 for witcher 2.0 int
Witcher 2 patch 2.0— 91c735fd63c83f249754a124a2023d8b

Sorry but what do I do with that? Am I supposed to check if mine is the same? If so where do I check that?

Not sure if this is helpful, but I also have a problem where when I try to update via the launcher it does an infinite download loop. It downloads, verifies, then redownloads over and over without launching the patcher.

Ok so GOG updated their download version to 2.0, so I redownloaded the whole game. It is 2.0 now, but I don’t know how to register this account with the game. I don’t want to register a new account because I’ve already had to do that several times due to the forum change and launch issues.

EDIT: Found the fix in another thread. Sweet, now its all set up. Thanks for the help guys.

Good afternoon chums, and what you see in the title, is what i have continuously read since 2 weeks ago.

For a brief background, I built a PC about a month ago, and it has been a headache to work with.

Specs: Motherboard: ASRock Z68 Extreme4 Gen 3 CPU: Core i5 RAM: 16 Gigs Corsair Vengeance Series DDR3-1600 Videocard: Radeon HD6770 HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB (two of those)

If I am missing anything, please let me know.

Installing an OS proved to be a challenge in itself (Removing all but one Ram stick, and everything unnecessarily plugged into the motherboard). When i initially got everything built and running, I had no problem installing any of my PC games on there. I ran both my Mass Effects just fine and dandy.

It wasn’t until 2 weeks ago when i had to format and reinstall windows when the problems started. ANY game i tried to install, would always give me the «An error occurred while trying to copy a file. The source file is corrupted.» I went and bought Deus Ex Human Revolution, brand new, and it still gave me the error. Replaced it 3 times, because it gave me the error all three times. I downloaded games from Steam, and still same error. I even tried installing the games just like my OS, with removing all the unnecessary hardware, and extra RAM sticks, and still errored out.

I would like to mention that nothing is pirated. My OS is genuine, and so are all my games. I’v read through countless forums, and they all suggest «re downloading the game», which doesn’t help when i have a physical copy of the game.

It is really frustrating and any help would be infinitely appreciated.
Many thanks in advance.

A mistake or inaccuracy, an error is caused about by committing miscalculations on the things that you do. This has caught me more than once. For files and folders in root it might be worth keeping your filenames under 8 from my computer to my SD 2GB cards. THANKS for any help that you can provide! Prior to August ’08 was able files from SD cards. No problems importing jpeg none seem to have the right solution for my problem. I suspect that there is a software compatibility files will be rejected when you hit this limit.

I cannot copy or paste jpeg files able to archive these files.

So keep your files in separate folders, so characters in length so you can use the full 512 files on root folder.

I keep getting «Source File Corrupt» when installing things and I always have to click on «retry» for everything

Hi guys,
Here’s my current issue, everytime I try to install some things I keep getting an error telling me that «the Source File is Corrupted» and I always have to click the «Retry» button just so that the installation can proceed. This forces me to constantly monitor the install throughout and click the «Retry» button whenever it shows up. This is very annoying especially for large files. Pic below is the problem.

The issue began when I changed my CPU from an AMD to a Intel, forcing me to also change the motherboard. Ever since that, I began experiencing this issue when installing; though it doesn’t happen for every installation, only to some.

Things I have done to try and troubleshoot but fail:

  • ■ Reformatting and reinstalling the application from a new Windows 7 64bit
    ■ Tried installing the EXE onto another machine with a clean Windows 7 install and the installer worked without a hitch
    ■ Moving the EXE file to different drives and trying to install it from there

Something weird is happening and it’s obviously my PC since the installer is able to work on other PCs without any problems. Please help, this is very problematic for me.

I found the solution. The cause of this error was related to my RAM.

I have apparently be using two different RAM. One being Kingston KVR21N15S8/8(A single-rank RAM) and the other being KVR21N15D8/8(A Dual-rank RAM). It became apparent when I used only one of the RAM and it worked fine but when I used both at the same time they caused an issue.

Here’s the two RAMs I used:

for whats its worth MS support suggest the following

Download the files to a different location, after the download tally the downloaded file size with the actual file size. In addition try deleting the temp files.
A.   Click start, type %temp% in the start search box and press enter.
B.   Delete the temporary files listed
Double click the download file and start the installation.

I’m having the same problem. Tried to run vorpX a few days ago and it updated and broke itself. Re-downloaded the web installer and I am greeted by this message every time I try and run it.

Also tried to run it on my laptop and my crappy old pc; same thing happens.

    Exact same here.

I tried it ONCE a couple of months ago with GTA 5 when I first bought – my experience was crap.

Wanted to try it again a few days ago with Fallout 4, and got the update prompt.

Tried downloading/reinstalling it a few times, all I get is the corrupt file error.

Done the whole firewall, full uninstall, admin run, dif install dir, etc – obviously without any luck.

I’ve tried contacting vorpx a couple of times, with no reply.

    Not impressed so far.

Definately a program I will be turning ppl away from.

Very odd issue. This has never been brought up until a few days ago. Might be an odd virus scanner problem with the latest version. Try to disable your virus scanner.

Please also try to completely uninstall vorpX and then remove the vorpX program folder manually before reinstalling. It can be found in C:Program Files (x86)Animation LabsvorpX

BTW: if you use anything else than Windows Defender, I would highly suggest to switch to that, some rather annoying over scanners cause trouble with each new vorpX build.

Have tried turning defender off multiple times and giving an exclusion to the setup file only, No other scanners installed.

Used uninstaller and also allowed it to remove reg entries.

Have removed directory and tried installing in a diff dir and drive.

Have tried running installer as ADMIN.

No changes to the system or network have been done since initial install except game installs via steam.

    Still no go.

Windows Defender does not cause any problems here, please double check whether you maybe have other “internet security” software or something similar installed that might cause problems. There definitely is no issue with setup file on the server, it somehow has to get corrupted during download, or (more likely) extraction on your PC, otherwise the installer would most likely report a checksum error on start.

The setup on the server has been re-uploaded nonetheless just in case it might have been a very odd general issue with the file that only causes issues for every 100th download or so.

    #166103

I have now tried the installer on 4 computers: 2 Windows 10 and 2 Windows 7, the second of the Windows 7 being a completely fresh install without any “internet security” software being installed including Security Essentials, firewall disabled and with no unnecessary services or processes running.

The same error occurs on all of them, running as admin or not, installing to program files or not, installing to a different drive or not, Installing from a different drive or not. I even tried changing the environment variable for the temp folder in case it had something to do with that.

Clearly there is something else going on here, vorpX was running perfectly fine for me before the last update.

Unfortunately it’s impossible to recreate the issue here. It’s also hard to even think of anything except some external factor that might corrupt the vorpConfing.exe, which obviously is totally fine within the installer archive and extracts perfectly fine in almost all cases.

The issue will be investigated further, but right now there is nothing I can recommend besides what I recommended above, sorry.

No other internet security or virus protection software.

Can we get a link to an earlier version please?

The plot thickens: judging from the IP addresses all three reports about this issue are from Australia and an ISP called Optus, which almost certainly isn’t a coincidence.

A not unlikely option seems to be that Optus cached the installer file, which then got corrupted in their cache, and because of that you get a corrupted one although the original file on the server here is perfectly fine. Might make sense to contact them and ask whether that could be the case.

Edit: Nevermind I see you may have found the problem, I will try a VPN and see if it fixes the problem

Could repacking the installer possibly help?

Most of my Vive usage was on games run with vorpX so this is rather frustrating for me

    That was indeed the problem!

Running the web setup through a VPN yielded a setup that ran perfectly fine.

    THANK YOU Ralf
