Lost Communication With Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC) Module
What does this mean?
This is a generic communication system diagnostic trouble code that applies to most makes and models of vehicles. This code means that the Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC) module and other control modules on the vehicle are not communicating with each other.
The circuitry most commonly used for communication is known as Controller Area Bus communication, or simply the CAN bus. Without this CAN bus, control modules cannot communicate and your scan tool may not receive information from the vehicle, depending on which circuit is involved.
The VDC module is responsible for preventing the tires from locking up when the ABS stops or losing traction when accelerating, not to mention preventing the vehicle from losing control when cornering on wet asphalt or during aggressive driving.
Troubleshooting steps may vary depending on the manufacturer, the type of communication system, the number of wires, and the colors of the wires in the communication system.

- Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) illuminated
- ABS indicator is on
- TRAC indicator is on (depending on the manufacturer)
- ESP / ESC indicator is on (depending on the manufacturer)

Usually the reason for installing this code is:
- Loss of power or ground to engine / transmission control module ECM / PCM — most common
- Open in CAN + bus circuit
- Open in the CAN bus — electrical circuit
- Short circuit to power in any CAN bus circuit
- Short to ground in any CAN bus circuit
- Rarely — faulty control module
Diagnostic and repair procedures
A good starting point is always to check the Technical Service Bulletins (TSB) for your particular vehicle. Your problem may be a known issue with a known manufacturer-released fix and could save you time and money while troubleshooting.
If your scan tool can access DTCs and the only code you retrieve from other modules is U0122, try accessing the VDC module. If you can access the codes from the VDC module, then the U0122 code is either intermittent or memory code. If the codes for the VDC module cannot be accessed, then the code U0122 set by other modules is active and the problem already exists.
The most common failure is loss of power or ground.
Check all fuses supplying the VDC module on this vehicle. Check all grounds for the VDC module. Locate ground anchorage points on the vehicle and make sure these connections are clean and secure. If necessary, remove them, take a small wire bristle brush and baking soda / water solution and clean each one, both the connector and the place where it connects.
If any repairs have been made, clear the DTCs from memory and see if U0122 returns or you can contact the VDC module. If no code returns or connectivity is restored, the problem is most likely a fuse / connection issue.
If the code returns, look for the CAN C bus connections on your specific vehicle, especially the VDC module connector. Disconnect the negative battery cable before disconnecting the connector on the DC voltage control module. Once detected, visually inspect the connectors and wiring. Look for scratches, scuffs, exposed wires, burn marks, or molten plastic. Disconnect the connectors and carefully inspect the terminals (metal parts) inside the connectors. See if they look burnt or have a green tint indicating corrosion. If you need to clean the terminals, use an electrical contact cleaner and a plastic bristle brush. Allow to dry and apply electrical grease where the terminals touch.
Perform these few voltage checks before plugging the connectors back into the VDC module. You will need access to a digital volt ohmmeter (DVOM). Make sure you have power and ground at the VDC module. Access the wiring diagram and determine where the main power and ground supplies enter the VDC module. Connect the battery before proceeding with the VDC module still disconnected. Connect the red wire of your voltmeter to each B + (battery voltage) power source going into the VDC module connector, and the black wire of your voltmeter to a good ground (if unsure, the negative pole of the battery always works). You can see the battery voltage reading. Make sure you have a good reason. Connect the red wire from the voltmeter to battery positive (B +) and the black wire to each ground. Once again, you should see the battery voltage every time you plug it in. If not, troubleshoot the power or ground circuit.
Then check the two communication circuits. Find CAN C + (or HSCAN +) and CAN C- (or HSCAN — chain) circuit. After connecting the black wire of the voltmeter to a reliable ground, connect the red wire to CAN C +. With the key on and the engine off, you should see about 2.6 volts with slight fluctuations. Then connect the red wire of the voltmeter to the CAN C- circuit. You should see about 2.4 volts with slight fluctuations. Other manufacturers show CAN C- at about 5V and a flapping key when the engine is off. Check out your manufacturer’s specifications.
If all tests pass and communication is still not possible, or you were unable to reset DTC U0122, the only thing that can be done is to seek help from a trained automotive diagnostician as this will indicate a faulty VDC module. Most of these VDC modules must be programmed or calibrated for the vehicle in order to install correctly.

What does this mean?
This is a generic communication system diagnostic trouble code that applies to most makes and models of vehicles. This code means that the Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC) module and other control modules on the vehicle are not communicating with each other.
The circuitry most commonly used for communication is known as Controller Area Bus communication, or simply the CAN bus. Without this CAN bus, control modules cannot communicate and your scan tool may not receive information from the vehicle, depending on which circuit is involved.

Troubleshooting steps may vary depending on the manufacturer, the type of communication system, the number of wires, and the colors of the wires in the communication system.

В один из прекрасных тёплых зимних дней, когда дороги покрыты кашей приправленной реагентом, моя супруга пожаловалась на отвалившуюся abs и vsa. По возвращению машины мне, я сел за руль и о чудо! Ни ошибок, ни проблем не обнаружил (эффект присутствия мастера). Спустя три дня косяк проявился вновь и теперь уже почти не пропадал. Пора покопаться в гараже…
Помыв авто полез читать ошибки, u0122 свидетельствовала о потери связи с блоком abs/vsa. Найдя мануал (xonda-civic.ru/R00/HTML/3…3AK721000U0122FART00.HTML) и вооружившись мультиметром полез прозванивать 37 pin разъём блока abs.

Все оказалось в норме кроме чуть-чуть завышенного сопротивления между 1 и 15 клеммой разъёма (~85-100 Ом вместо 65). Пока лазил под капотом ковыряя все места где может быть косяк и снимая ЭБУ стало понятно, что с линией canl, соединяющей мозги с блоком abs, не все в порядке. Её сопротивление плавало от 4 до 50 Ом, прозванивал сняв ЭБУ (ecm/pcm). После долгих поисков нашёл стыковочный разъём под правой аркой который больше похож на не используемую «фишку».

При осмотре проводов разъёма было обнаружено нарушение изоляции одного из них, и как следствие, отгнивание. После переобжатия все работает как надо.

Если ошибка указывает на неверные параметры (высокие или низкие значения) какого нибудь из датчиков или анализаторов, то вероятней всего этот элемент исправен, а проблему надо искать так сказать «выше по течению», в элементах работу которых анализирует датчик или зонд.
Если ошибка указывает на постоянно открытый или закрытый клапан, то тут надо подойти к решению вопроса с умом, а не менять бездумно этот элемент. Причин может быть несколько: клапан засорен, клапан заклинил, на клапан приходит неверный сигнал от других неисправных узлов.

Описание ошибки U0122
На автомобилях с электронным управлением устанавливаются несколько блоков управления. Эти блоки осуществляют все операции управления на основании данных, получаемых от различных датчиков. Поскольку данные датчиков требуются разным блокам, для управления силовой передачей (БУТ, ЭБУД, комбинация приборов, ESP, 4WD, SAS, EPS) используется скоростной и помехоустойчивый интерфейс CAN. Шина CAN состоит из линии CAN LOW, линии CAN HIGH и двух 120 Ом резисторов в цепи. Если ЭБУ 4WD не получает сигналы от системы TCS, он устанавливает код неисправности U0122.
