But the biggest gyms also have swimming pools, steam rooms and cafeterias. They offer classes in yoga, dance, aerobics and many other forms of exercise. 6Here is one thing that we can all do to help species that are close to extinction. When travelling overseas, be very careful not to buy any souvenirs that have been made from species nearing extinction. This means avoiding purchasing items made from ivory, coral and fur and also ‘medicinal’ products as they often contain rhino, tiger and bear parts.

7Wildlife parks and zoos are very educational places but perhaps their greatest purpose is the conservation of endangered species. Animal centres all around the world work together in order to breed rare and endangered species. For example, today there are only a few hundred giant pandas left in the wild. If breeding programmes and conservation efforts are successful, future generations may still be able to see these beautiful animals in the flesh, not just in books.

The rooms were perfect. The décor was slightly shabby but, as if to make up for it, the balcony had a stunning view over the town. We decided to stay for a month initially, and depending on what happened, we would come to an arrangement after that. It was a relief to be settled somewhere, if only for a few weeks. I could now pack my suitcase in record time and we’d met so many people that I’d lost count. Sometimes when I was introduced to yet another stranger I would change my name, just to make it more interesting.

могу ли я сказать: At two o’clock I will go to the supermarket, вместо i went, это будет ошибка или можно и так и так ?

И там же во втором

Я ответил: I had been driving when I saw my friend and I said ‘hello’.
Будет ли это ошибкой ?

Вы можете сказать:

At two o’clock I will go to the supermarket

— ошибкой это не будет. Можно сказать I went и I will — оба варианта — правильны. Разница будет лишь во времени: «в 2 я схожу в супермаркет.» и «в 2 я сходил в супермаркет.»

Здесь тоже самое, можно сказать:

I had been driving when I saw my friend and I said ‘hello’

Оба времени имеют место быть и ошибки не будет.

п.с. если Вы спросите, почему же в правильных ответах только по одному варианту, могу ответить лишь за себя, т.к. размещенные выше упражнения с ответами писали сами носители языка.
Наверно, им как-то виднее в этом плане почему они использовали только одно время.
И второй не маловажный момент: опирайтесь всегда на контекст. Если Вам английский нужен для жизни — это одно. Если Вы сдаете тесты — это другое.

В этом предложении правильным вариантом будет I was driving my car when I saw my friend…
Смысл таков: в то время как я ехал на машине, я увидел друга… I had been driving здесь некорректно.

Поверьте — корректно. Как я выше написала — всё зависит от контекста.
Я специально уточняла этот вопрос у американца. Перевела его ответ сюда в виде коммента.

Типичная ситуация, когда вы изучили базовые времена в английском языке по отдельности, но прошло некоторое время и они перепутались у вас в голове. В этом случае начинать изучение времен сначала не надо! Надо просто систематизировать ваши знания, то есть не просто повторить, а разложить все по полочкам. Такие знания имеют логическую основу и забыть их просто невозможно!

Итак, в этом уроке мы повторим все изученные времена в английском языке Present Simple, Present Continuous, Past Simple и Future Simple, но сделаем это в сравнении.

Упражнение 1. Как видно из таблицы в этих временах к глаголу-действию добавляются окончания: -S и -ING. Выполните упражнение и вспомните, какие изменения происходят с глаголом при добавлении этих окончаний.

Упражнение 3. Составьте предложения. Используйте Present Simple или Present Continuous.
