There was an error opening the audio hardware:
Error initializing ASIO buffers

или такую

There was an error opening the audio hardware:
Different ASIO sample types per stream, not compatible

@Aleksandr Oleynik,

  • #7

@Aleksandr Oleynik,

  • #9

@Aleksandr Oleynik

DirectSound / ASIO / WASAPI / WASAPI Exclusive

Cool Edit Pro

  • #23

Realtek ASIO

  • #24

Focusrite
Lexicon Alpha.

PPS: Mercedes benz the best or nothing.

//Realtek ASIO

Intel

Error Initializing Buffers*

I am fairly new to the DAW scene. I have a Lexicon Alpha audio interface that I have a condenser microphone hooked up to. Everything works perfectly when I hop in Audacity or Free Sound Recorder. I am getting this error message when I try to select my audio interface driver when I am in reaper, however. I’ll have to be honest and say I do not have a clue as to what the problem is, or even how to fix it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If any additional details would be needed, let me know. Thanks

Try select ASIO first, and then select among the drivers that come up then.

I had similar things happend when I select DirectSound which is used by Windows sound.

Just guessing…

I had the ASIO device selected and the ASIO driver as well. When I clicked okay or when I try to record, I always get the same error, failed to initialize buffers…

Just a couple of guesses but:
1) Do you have any other audio-capable programs open while Reaper is running? Music player, internet browser, midi player, Audacity, etc.? Reaper and ASIO sometimes don’t play together well if there’s other things going on.

2) Have you tried adjusting the buffer on your ASIO? You might have to find a sweet spot for your hardware and Reaper to work together too. A fresh re-install/restart with no other programs open might not hurt if you can’t get it to work.

It wouldn’t hurt to post your computer info, operating system, and so on for more specific advice.

I have not tried adjusting the buffering, mainly because I have no idea how. I don’t doubt that it would solve the issue, it makes sense…I just really wouldn’t know what to tweek and by how much. I’ll definitely try a fresh reinstall…but I have recently been having very bad lockups while trying to access the preferences in Reaper with my ASIO plugged in…to the point where I need to do a hard boot. Hopefully it’ll be okay and I can proceed to fix up the buffering, I guess I would need some pointers on how to do that.

As for my computer…

Buffer Initialization error

I have the same issues with the Omega and I am getting ready to smash it. It works fine for other programs, sound and media playback but it will not work in Reaper. Used the new Omega drivers and it goes straight to the fail mode. Tried the latest ASIO4all drivers too. ASIO4all just gives constant static noise.

I have a Line6 Guitar port that works flawlessly with the Guitar port drivers, input and output but it has no mic inputs or MIDI either. Regardless, I know Reaper and my system are good, it is just something in the Omega.

If anyone has any other ideas, I am listening. If it won’t work, its going up on Ebay…

I am open to suggestions on the best all in one interface for instruments, mics, and MIDI in case this just won’t work…

having the same issue now. Two different computers I have tried and now this is my second interface. I’m not sure what is next to do…..

My original gear was Focusrite 24 DSP firewire
IBM Thinkpad Win7 8G RAM but had work crap on it, this is why I bought another laptop

New setup
Apollo USB UAD Twin
Dell Precision m4600 8G of RAM and I hope to go to 32G at some point. SSD drive is boot drive and I have a hybrid 1T drive as my data drive for recording. This is Core i7 from 2012 and the machine is clean, no antivirus apps or anything else for that matter. Firewall is turned off. I have my Fractal Audio Axefx2 drive loaded so I can update the firmware and edit the sounds but it’s not selected in the Reaper. I had it set to 48k and 512 buffer and the 1024. I can’t imagine I need more than that for a buffer. I’m not even recording much. I have drums (all separate tracks) and I have bass one track and various guitar test tracks that I am comparing.

I think my machine is plenty powerful enough for what I am doing. It’s more of a machine than my singers Apple Desktop.

If you are on PC, you might want to try VoiceMeeter, which has its own ASIO driver, if ASIO4ALL doesn’t work for you. Although I’m not sure it will be much better.

But first make sure no other application is running in the background and using audio. This includes the web browser, even if there is no audio running. Because THAT may sometimes cause the issue.
Also, if the computer is exposed to internet, I don’t recommend turning off the firewall. Mine is on all the time and as long as it’s not on wifi, there is no problem.

the firewall is off only because I have a router firewall. So the software one is disabled. I just removed Fractal’s drive for testing. Really annoying because this interface is so much cleaner than my Focusrite interface. Really bumming out since I hoped this interface would solve my issue along with a nice upgrade. I can disable wifi while recording since I have a switch. I will
try that next.

thanks

seemed to work and now after trying to listen again after walking away it’s back. I’m wondering if the whole issue is just Reaper. I love the application, don’t get me wrong but what else do I need to change to get rock solid recording and play back with destroying my monitors ever time the signal breaks up.

There was an error opening the audio hardware error initializing asio buffers reaper

Suddenly hit a really annoying problem, whereby when I open REAPER I’m just being met with an «Error opening devices» message saying: «There was an error opening the audio hardware: Error initializing ASIO driver.»

Thing is nothing has changed! There was a windows update that came through almost a week ago, but after that installed I used REAPER for several days without any problems. The other day, though, this started happening. If I change the Audio System to something else then it will work, but in the past I’ve found it to have more latency issues, so I’ve preferred to stick to ASIO.

I’ve tried updating the driver(s) to my audio interface (Roland Quad-Capture), but that comes back saying it’s running the latest. I’ve checked the Roland website and found I am. I wasn’t running the latest version of REAPER, so downloaded that but still getting it.

While Googling I saw something about going to the computer’s Device Manager and locating Universal ASIO Driver, then making sure that’s up to date; but I can’t find that anywhere in my Device Manager.

Other than that I feel I’ve exhausted all options, so any help anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated!

«Universal ASIO Driver?» I don’t believe there is any such thing. It’s certainly not something that would ever show up in device manager because drivers tend to be specific to hardware, and device manager is a list of hardware components, not drivers (though it can tell you which drivers they are using).

The closest thing to that I think would ASIO4All, which is a hack intended for devices that don’t actually support ASIO, and also won’t show up in device manager.

Usually the problem you describe is hardware related. It could mean your cable is bad or the port it’s plugged into, or even the audio device itself.

Can you try your Roland on another computer? You just need to troubleshoot and rule out every part of the chain.

You could also try uninstalling your device driver and reinstalling it (with a reboot in between). Something may have become corrupted there.

There was an error opening the audio hardware error initializing asio buffers reaper

Hello I’m using the edirol UA25ex on windows 7 with Reaper. Everything used to be perfect but suddenly the UA 25ex can’t be detected on Reaper. It works outside of Reaper, for example I can hear music with window media player through the UA25ex but when i launch Reaper it says «There was an error opening the audio hardware: Error initializing ASIO driver».
I used to choose «ASIO» in audio system of preference > device
and in Asio driver > «UA-25ex» but now I can’t select the inputs or the outputs, it’s a blank.

I’ve made a test by using reaper on another computer with Windows 10 but it’s exactly the same problem.
I’ve made another test with the software Mulab. When I choose «MME audio output» in audio driver type and «Edirol 25ex» in audio driver name it works. But when I choose audio driver type > «Asio» it says «the audio engine is not working» So it seems to be a problem with Asio.
I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled Asio4all but nothing changes.

But in Reaper there is not the driver MME, Asio seems the only one which works with my Edirol. I don’t understand all this stuff of Asio, MME, can someone help me? I was about to finish a big recording and I don’t want to lose everything!

Thank you so much for your help !

If you are running 64-bit REAPER make sure you’ve got the 64-bit ASIO drivers from Roland.

I’ve made a test with audacity, it’s the same,

Audacity doesn’t support ASIO (except there is a way to compile it yourself with ASIO support).

——————————————————
ASIO4ALL isn’t true ASIO. It works with your existing Windows drivers on the hardware-side to make non-ASIO hardware work with ASIO applications. So for example, you can use an ASIO application with a regular-cheap soundcard.

ASIO4ALL shouldn’t be necessary with REAPER since REAPER works with regular Windows drivers or ASIO drivers. (There may be special cases where ASIO4ALL works better then the regular Windows drivers alone.)

ASIO doesn’t work the other way around. It won’t work if you have a regular Windows application (like Audacity) and ASIO hardware/drivers.

There was an error opening the audio hardware error initializing asio buffers reaper

I am having some issues trying to make my ASIO driver talk to Reaper. The specs I have are a Midas M32 board with a Klark Teknik DN32-USB Driver and the newest version of Reaper running 64 bit Windows 10 system. The computer is more than capable for running the program. I was running the same setup on an identical computer with no problems. The difference on the newer computer is a newer version of Reaper. Any thoughts? I am new to Reaper so any input would be helpful. The error I am receiving says «There was an error opening the audio hardware: Error initializing ASIO buffers.»

Do you have any other audio applications running in the background which might already be using the ASIO driver?

And have you already checked or tried to reselect the settings under Preferences > Audio > Device?
More info in the User Guide — chapter 1.12 (Setting up for Audio): https://www.reaper.fm/userguide.php

Otherwise can you attach a screenshot of your current Audio > Device settings?: https://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=140670

The only thing that we are running on this specific computer is Reaper. We have this computer to have one solely devoted to the recording system. The computer was completely wiped prior to us using it.

Here are some screen shots of the settings and error.

What audio interface do you have?

Is the audio interface you use for reaper also the default windows audio device (the one sound from your other apps goes through)?

Are there any other programs running at all?

These sorts of problems are almost never the fault of reaper.

And, friendly tip, spamming the forum with multiple threads about the same thing because you’re pissed off isn’t the best way to get help.

Just shelled out $60 bucks for this. Wow. i got ripped off. Reaper you suck.

firstly, there is no difference between the paid version and the trial. they are exactly the same except with a lic. you don’t get the nag screen and wait time.

so as others have been telling you, there IS some problem with your system, likely in the area of your audio drivers or audio device.

stop and think for moment: thousands of other users have no such problems. so we can help you sort it out IF you provide more complete info about your computer system.

Without trying to make this about you.

Let’s not go right to «We Need To Assemble An Acme Kit. » I absolutely understand being frustrated when this sort of thing happens, but you almost always have to set that frustration aside to wind up at where you want to go.

While I’d agree that you giving us a really, really, really detailed breakdown of hardware/computer brand/OS is the correct place to start, we can probably try to rule out «Reaper Is Broke. » before even getting to any of that.

First, take your interface out of the equation completely. Just start up Reaper, and change the audio setting to one that will use the computer’s default audio card.

If you can get that changed and Reaper to open without issues, move on to the next step.

Take an .mp3/.flac/.wav file of some type, and insert it into a new project.

— Will it play?
— If it will play, can you hear it?
— If you can, can you successfully save that work?

If you can get to that point, the odds that it is actually an issue with Reaper is right around «Zero».

Anyway, that is where I would start personally.

Good luck, and let us know about that «Here’s What I Have. » question.

This error message keeps coming up. I have no idea what to do. The music I have work on turned out like I wanted. But now when I try to play it or edit through Reaper,it sounds real bad no bass, hollow? not all there, not what is on the CD. I have reinstalled my Tascam 2×2. I still have Audacity on my computer and it seems to work fine.
If some one could help me, so I can get on with this project.

thanks for any help

I did upgrade a few days ago but this was going on before. Main reason for was to see if that would help and it didn’t. I also uninstalled and reinstall the Tascam and downloaded the new drivers.

I think the interface is working.

When I click on Audio devices (on the error message )it takes me to Audio device setting screen. Everything looks correct.

That sounds like a «vocal removal» effect, where the «center channel» is removed. That can happen with the wrong adapters when connecting between balanced (3-wire) and unbalanced (2-wire) connections.

I don’t think this is an ASIO/driver problem. But, for what you’re doing you shouldn’t need low-latency so you should be able to use the regular Windows drivers (instead of ASIO), so you can at least try the regular drivers.

I have reinstalled my Tascam 2×2.

Since you mentioned a CD, I assume you ripped the CD and you’re using the TASCAM for playback/monitoring, not for recording? If that’s the case, try a mono recording. If the left & right are being subtracted (the vocal removal effect) a true mono file that plays the same sounds through both sides will give you silence (or near silence).

If it’s a wiring issue with the TASCAM, your regular soundcard should work OK.

I had a exact problem with Tascam 2×2 few days ago, remedied by using windows system restore and reverting windows to the state from couple days back — driver reinstallation didn’t work.

Not quite sure how it was broken in my case — I suspect I messed things up by temporarily enabling onboard soundchip (I wanted to check something) and something crapped out in windows. Anyways — system restore thing worked.

I will try to use the windows driver.

When I lose sound quality is playing back the wave file on Reaper to edit or listen.I can play the wav. file on Window media player

I did record using audacity can’t remember if I changed drives.

This started months back so I don’t know about the system restore. I got frustrated and walked away for awhile.

Thank you for your help guys, I wasn’t expecting much help, what a good surprise.

Let me explain a little better since I have your attention.

We recorded 11 songs on a BOSS 1600 CD recorder then exported them to Audacity . Audacity was not what we wanted so I purchased Reaper and Edited those 11 songs. Made a WAV. copy and a mp3 copy. Everything is good right? After making the CDs some band members wanted to make changes, that’s when(the best I can tell) the issue started.

Currently I can play any music I want everything running through Tascam. When I play guitar, plug directly into Tascam and Reaper using a few effects the sound is there. I have not tried to render down to WAV. or mp3 but the sound is good.

The music we are recording is all live studio Blues country and a little garage band Neil Young style.

More work tonight I gotta get this fixed we have a recording schedule in 2 weeks. I have thought about uninstalling and reinstalling Reaper but I don’t know what kind of problem that may cause. The way this happened it seems like it is human error could I have unknowingly changed a setting? Are there any other settings I need to check before we go further?
