Just to add, if «Review document..» option is already unchecked then select it, Apply, unselect it and finally press Ok.
I have tried the above steps, the problem is still present though. Thanks for the help, if you can suggest any other solution I would be most obliged,
Clicking «Advanced Speech options» results in the following message:
«The requested task cannot be carried out because the necessary engine could not be created. Please select a different engine and/or a different audio device.»
How do you select a different engine? Is there a choice between 6 cylinder and 8 cylinder engines?

Здравствуйте. Распознавание речи работает только, если интерфейс будет на Английском языке и включится Кортана. Тут хоть и написана статья на Русском, но обратите внимание на команды https://support.microsoft.com/ru-ru/help/12427 =============================================

Hi, I’ve been looking online for a fix to this problem but none of it seems to work for me =
Whenever I start up Voice Recognition it gives me this error
Speech Recognition could not start because the language configuration is not supported…
Then it tell me to check that the user interface language is the same as voice recognition.
I’ve done the following to try and get this fix :
1) Check the settings
2) Changed locale language to something else then change it back to US
3) Made sure my Mic was setup correctly
And I also did some other things but it just won’t work.
Could anyone please help me solve this error
I could train and do the tutorial just fine, it worked perfectly.

Hi,
This issue can be caused by Speech Recognition settings.
I suggest performing the following steps:
1. Go to Control Panel ->Speech Recognition
2. Click Advance Speech options on the left panel.
3. Change the Language to another option.
4. Uncheck the «Review documents and mail to improve accuracy.
If it does not work, change the Language back.
If the issue persists, please update the sound card driver and BIOS to latest version.

Recently one of our reader “James” asked us about following problem in an email:
Whenever he tries to start “Speech Recognition” in Windows 7, he gets following error message:
Speech Recognition could not start because the language configuration is not supported.
The recognizer language must match the language of the user interface. Please change the recognizer language in the Speech Recognition control panel under Advanced Options.
Its a known problem in Windows Vista and 7. Most of the times it happens when ctfmon.exe is not set to automatically start with Windows.
There are a few things which can be done to fix this error message. We’ll cover them one by one:
FIX 1: Add ctfmon.exe to Startup
1. Type regedit in RUN or Start menu Searchbox and press Enter. It’ll open Registry Editor.
2. Now go to following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionRun
3. In right-side pane, create a new String value with the name ctfmon and set its value to ctfmon.exe
4. Close Registry Editor and restart your system. After reboot, you should not get the error message and Speech Recognition should start without any problem.
FIX 2: Using Speech Recognition Settings
1. Open Control Panel and click on Speech Recognition icon. Now click on “Advanced speech options” link given in left sidebar.
2. It’ll open a new window. Make sure the Language is set to the correct locale and “Review documents” option is not checked.
3. Apply the changes and restart your system.
FIX 3: Using Regional Settings
1. Type intl.cpl in RUN or Start menu Searchbox and press Enter. It’ll open Regional Settings window.
2. Now go to “Location” tab and change the location to something different and restart your system.
3. Upon reboot set the location to correct one and restart your system again.
4. Now Speech Recognition should work.
FIX 4: Create New Recognition Profile
If everything fails, try to create a new recognition profile by using step 1 mentioned in FIX 2.

I have been trying to play a new game recently that involves access to the microphone in game with speech. While other applications such as Discord are able to hear me, the game itself would not detect me speaking at all.
Looking further into it, it seems that the whole area for Speech under settings is greyed out and I cannot select anything see screenshot below, and upon trying to «Start Speech Recognition» in the control panel, the error «Speech Recognition could not start because the language configuration is not supported» appears even though I have English New Zealand set for both my display and preferred languages in settings.
Looking into the language packs, there is no English New Zealand pack, so I have downloaded English Australia and English U.S, but I’m not sure what else to do in order to be able to actually use this feature. :

(but note the date)fwiw I just tried it- my locale, speech, display language etc are set to UK English. (Which took some doing this time, or something was slightly messed up).
If I type speech in Cortana’s search box, say, I get Windows Speech Recognition as top search.
I use Classic Shell, with the Control Panel expanded, so in a second or less I can see ‘Speech Recognition’ listed there.
Similarly, if I type ‘Speech’ in Settings I can easily see Speech Recognition.

No speech recognition at all Hi, thank you for the useful information.
Personally, I also use ClassicShell with CPanel enabled, and I do have the root «Speech Recognition» icon, but I can’t open it, and I can’t access the further settings (such as configuring ASR Language or training your mic) — and of course I’ve tried a million ways of accessing the settings *Wink
I did set my display language and my input language to en-US, as well as my locale, to no avail (and restarting didn’t do the trick either) — and then back to de-DE (which is also supported) — the ASR language settings, however, remain elusive^^
I have also tried having ctfmon running and the input language bar displayed in various statesI have downloaded different language packs, but some of them would not install, the installer disappears after «gathering required information»

I’m not at home right now, I’ll check in a couple of hours — but that looks immensely helpful already. I did find the speech folders in Sys32 and SysWOW myself before and tried changing access permissions, but to no avail.I hope running the SAPI server will do the trick — I was expecting exactly something like this to be missing or blocked from/in my system
