I had the same problem. HP tech suggest, after trying a number of fixes, that I have the logic board replaced.

I didn’t have to. I stumbled on a solution. Then a power drop brought it back. I went back to my accidental fix and was able to restore operations.

The 3020 is a false assumption and should be deleted, even if the fix works.

Hope this works for you. (Since my last post, I had the same problem with another power drop and solved it by following the steps outlined in the Solution. Since I needed a new Yellow cart I followed the procedure. I never was able to install the firmware update and the printer still outperforms most of the later printers when it comes to color rendering for subtle color shifts, including flesh tones.)

Not necessarily so. Before posting my response to JenWal131 — I had just booted up and tried to print an email. The churning, spinning beach ball appeared. I let it run its course and opened System Preferences, to Printers & Scanners. More beach ball. Open, and the unwanted printer was there. I simply deleted it, reboot, with Command+Option+P+R, and the proper printer appeared.

True, if you try the solution I posted and initialization of a toner cart occurs then the priner should be on line. Since the «Firmware corrupt…» takes the printer off line and the green status light will not light up, the unwanted printer is simply unrelated to the off line 400.

I have previusly deleted the unwanted printer as well as the drivers connected to it with out any change in model, however i will try to to change toner as soon as i get my hands some.

Hi again!

I tried change the cyan toner, i rebooted it with the lower left button pressed down it it started making allot of noise and it seemed like it was trying to do someting. In the end it stopped making sounds and the error stayd on the display thrue out the entier process.

Google and download HP LaserJet M2727 mfp Service Manual then NVRAM is inside.

if after NVRAM it’s still no work then you need to try to resend firmware through USB cable, if you can’t see any firmware updating processing on the panel you’ll need to change the connect port from USB001 to USB002 003 004…… one by one until one of them will work and you can see the difference on the panel. The connected port is in the printer property by right clicking the printer icon.

If after succeeding firmware updating and reboot M2727 you still get the ‘Firmware Corrupt Ready 2 Download’ Error then you need to change the formatter.

Thanks East2100. The NVRAM instructions didn’t work initially, but I was eventually able to resend the firmware through USB by trying multiple USB ports and selecting the HP universal print pcl6 device  instead of the M2727nf pcl6 device. After the firmware was reinstalled, I did a NVRAM reset and it worked fine. Problem is, I clearly have a bad formatter. The unit reboots regulary and often gets stuck in the initiating mode.

Then you can try the baking method it’ll often work for one or two year longer or shorter but it should work for the first time.

What my experoence is it’ll become shorter and shorter when you bake the formatter more than once and one it’ll never work anymore. But maybe don’t have to worry so much as long as it can last its life.

In the end you’ll have to replace the formatter but who cares by now.

Google «HP M2727 bake» you’ll find out many of them. Hope it helps.

East2100 —  Thanks again. I waited until the printer stopped working completely and baked the formatter. It’s been working perfectly for a few months now.  Since the printer is 10.5 years old, I consider any additional life as gravy, but hopefully I will get a year or two more out of it.
