Very Detailed Installation Guide[]

Install Oblivion[]
First install Oblivion. Make sure that you have no DLCs to Nehrim active. Disable any DLCs to Oblivion.
Install Nehrim[]
Install the game as per instructions in the exe. I highly recommend that you install it into <drive letter>:GamesNehrim
This is because newer versions of windows place severe restrictions on file manipulation within the program files directory, which is easily avoided by installing into C:GamesNehrim instead of C:Program FilesNehrim
You should not chose the same directory as oblivion when it asks you where to install. It will automatically locate it and copy the needed files from it to your selected install directory.
In this guide I will assume you installed into C:GamesNehrim if you installed it somewhere else, simply adjust the path as needed.
Modify the Shortcut[]
1. The installer created a shortcut to C:GamesNehrimoblivion.exe
This is not what you want to use. Modify it to point at C:GamesNehrimNehrimLauncher.exe
Update Nehrim[]
The full installer does not contain the latest patch, so use this:
You need to press the upwards pointing arrow circled in red here.
Which will give you this:
Check the box circled in red here, note that it would come unchecked by default (for some odd reason). This will cause it to immediately start download and install of latest patch.
You will have to exit the launcher to finish this. When done launch it again and proceed with this guide.
Enable Data Files[]
Enable data files, Nehrim stripped out the core content of oblivion and replaced it with its own, but it must be enabled (as a mod) first.
Press the «Data Files» button.
Check each of the boxes as shown.
Then hit the accept button above them:
At this point the game will run.
Configure Settings[]
Configure settings. You want the game to look good, my computer is core i7 875K with 4GB of ram and a GTX260 GPU. My CPU is modern and beefy, my GPU is actually fairly old. With that setup I have no problems running on max settings. First, go into settings:
Now, set the resolution, press the arrow shown here:
it will give you the following list:
If your monitor’s max resolution is on the list, select it.
However, some resolutions (ex: 1920×1200) are missing. If this is your resolution, then you need to configure a custom resolution. To do that, select the <Own resolution> option.
Type your chosen resolution, no spaces, separated by a small x. Such as «1920×1200» without the quotation marks. Then press the disk picture to save it as a custom resolution.
It will ask which slot to use (there are three), just choose any.
Now, you need to configure the rest, which basically means moving sliders and checking boxes and radio buttons. For max settings match what I have in the picture here:
And then press accept.
The engine has an issue where it can NOT use both HDR (advanced, high quality light effects) and anti-aliasing (processes that remove jaggedness from diagonal lines in the game) at the same time. Even forcing AA in the driver when HDR is on seems to not have an effect (at least, SG-SSAA using the NVIDIA SG-SSAA tool). From my testing it seems that jaggedness is rare in this game, so I recommend the better light effects for this game (its not a universal recommendation, just based on this one game). But if your personal taste is that jaggedness removal is more important than quality light effects, then you can switch your settings from the previously suggested setup to this one:
You are now done and simply need to press Start Nehrim to begin play. Keep using the launcher though. It will be checking for patches every time it runs and ensures you get updates as they are released.
A final note, Nehrim shares its save folder with oblivion. This means that you see Nehrim saves in oblivion and vice versa. However, they simply fail to open with the «wrong» game version. This is no cause for alarm, just an unavoidable aspect of the project.

Installation[]
When installing the Nehrim installer will automatically detect your Oblivion install directory and offers to make a Nehrim based duplicate. Please be patient, on some UAC protected PC’s it can take 30 seconds plus to start.
Change the default install directory from C:Program FilesSureAiNehrim to something along the lines of C:Nehrim. (If this does not help, uninstall both Nehrim and Oblivion, then install Oblivion in folder C:Oblivion and then Nehrim C:Nehrim). This is based on the fact that the UAC protection on many OSs interfere with the launch.
Keep the «Run Nehrim Launcher» checked. Allow the Launcher.exe to launch.
Click the Data Files button. The only entries which you should tick are :-
- Nehrim.esm
- NehrimData.esp
- NehrimEnglish.Esp (if this is the EN version you are playing)
The Nehrim Launcher is very helpful. You will find tabs along the top which include a Readme. If installation has not worked this is the first place to look for help. Non of you Oblivion mods will work for Nehrim unless they have been converted. Many mods already have been converted and many new ones just for Nehrim are being developed. Again along the top of the Nehrim Launcher is a Mod tab for checking on Mods. Nehrim is complete but still a work in progress.
You should now click the accept button. You will also see a settings button which contain a lot of different ways too alter the look of Nehrim. Also when you enter the game, you can access more settings through the diary or use the ESC button and configure through the Video or Gameplay screens. All the cheat codes that worked for Oblivion (I believe) work with Nehrim.
Also notice on the launcher there is an automatic updater for when new versions arrive.

3.Find your Run Nehrim shortcut from the list and click «add it«.

Hello, I was quite excited the other day when I saw that Nehrim was finally on steam, however, I haven’t been able to get it to work and am faced with the same error when I attempt to update it in the launcher, I have them both on the same drive and they should both be in the steamapps folder. I will include a screencap of said error. Any help would be appreciated. Danke schön meine Freunde.

Some other process is locking the files. Were any folders opened in the background? You could try to restart your computer and try it again.

Hello, I restarted my comp and got the same error. I made sure that the only programs I had open were the steam launcher & The Nehrim launcher before pressing update. It usually starts up fine but states that I need an update to play, and then the error shown above occurs. Is there any other way I could potentially fix this?

for a test: Activate Oblivion with the switcher and close the switcher afterwards. Then start the update directly via Steam.
Then activate Nehrim again with the Switcher and only now start the Nehrim-launcher.
Otherwise:
Check if you have under …Steamsteamappscommon the folders: Oblivion and Oblivion_Backup (only exists when Nehrim is active)
well as Nehrim and the subfolder NerimFiles (the latter only exists when Oblivion is active) in .
Start the NehrimLauncher.exe once with administrator rights (can be set under file properties).
Make sure that no write protection exists on the folder:
…SteamsteamappscommonOblivion as well as C:Users…Documentsmy gamesOblivion.
Any antivirus program(then put it on the whitelist), Windows — devender or general Windows rights could also block this
(if e.g. , as mentioned above, an open file in named folders)

I experienced a similar problem with Nehrim — hence the reason I am replying here rather than starting a new thread. However, I was not getting an unhandled exception error, just that «switching» to Nehrim would fail with a suggestion to check folder permissions and possibly restart my computer.
This behavior did not begin when I first installed Nehrim. Instead, Nehrim would not launch after I «switched.» Instead, it would crash on start-up. As a result, I «verified» Oblivion files through Steam and tried again. That didn’t help. Then I uninstalled Nehrim and Oblivion. Trying again, the Nehrim launcher refused to «switch» to Nehrim and started complaining about folder permissions. That sent me down the Windows 10 permissions/UAC rabbit hole complete with several uninstall/reinstall cycles, including the manual removal of residual Oblivion directories after uninstalling within Steam. Nothing worked…until it finally dawned on me that the Oblivion_BACKUP folder was a result of my previous attempt to run Nehrim and not from the modding process for Oblivion when I last played it months ago.
In summary, «switching» can fail if an old Oblivion_BACKUP folder still exists when trying to «switch» from Oblivion to Nehrim. This is an obvious problem in hindsight, but the error dialog put up by the Nehrim switcher/launcher should have reported an existing Oblivion_BACKUP folder as the source of the «permission» problem rather than a more generic problem.

I’ve been having troubles with not being able to play both games; just one or the other. I spent some time and figured out how to be able to play each with having to reinstall on every switch. When using a Steam copy of Oblivion, it is necessary to install Nehrim somewhere else. I used C:UsersUser NameMy Documents. Before moving the Nehrim data folder I made a copy of the Oblivion Data folder (with all my mods in it as well) and placed it in a folder on my desktop called Data for Oblivion. That leaves me one in the original location and one on the destop. Then i moved the Nehrim Data file to where it needs to be placed (C:Program Files (x86)Steamsteamappscommonoblivion). I can now play Nehrim. When I want to switch back to Oblivion I cut the Data folder from commonoblivion and place it in a folder on the desktop called Data for Nehrim; then i cut the Data folder from Data from Oblivion and place it in commonoblivion. Open up Oblivion via Steam, hit the Data Files button, turn off Nehrim and turn on Oblivion +mods and begin to play. The whole process of switching takes me about 2 minutes. Cutting and pasting is faster then Copy/paste. Also since both games save to the same folder i made 2 new folders- Saves for Nehrim and Saves for Oblivion. Before playing Nehrim i cut everything in the regular save folder (C:UsersUser NameDocumentsMy GamesOblivionSaves) into the Saves for Oblivion folder. When I switch back i cut the new saves that appeared in the folder (these are the Nehrim saves) and put them in the Saves for Nehrim folder. Cut your Oblivion saves and move them back to the regular Saves folder and continue playing Oblivion. I hope that this was easy enough to understand and I hope it helps some people who want to play both games still. Enjoy!

Hey guys I am in dire need of help for this, I tried following almost every instruction on the net and I STILL cant make this work, I keep getting Steam Error : Application load error 5:0000065434. do I have to overwrite ALL the files INSIDE the oblivion folder with the nehrim ones. I tried this once and kept getting this damn error. tried everything the readme told me to and still getting this damn error.

Not sure if it applies, but maybe this may help you ?
I have not played the mod myself, so I’m probably not the best person to advise, but just to double check,
WARNING: If you are using Windows Vista or 7, then please do not install Nehrim into one of
the Program Folders (Program, Program Files, Program(x86), Program Files (x86)). Because
of the Windows security checks this can cause problems.
Starting Nehrim (if you have Oblivion by Steam)
· Unfortunately, you cannot use the Launcher provided by SureAI with Steam to start Nehrim.
Therefore, click as usual on the Oblivion start icon. Nevertheless, DO NOT click “Play”
yet! Just as you do with other mods you must first activate the Nehrim files.
· Therefore click on “Data Files” and uncheck ALL game files that you have activated. To
play Nehrim now enable “Nehrim.esm” and “NehrimData.esp”. NOTHING ELSE! All
files that have anything to do with Oblivion must be disabled or the game will crash.
Just to add, the instalation instructions in the readme for the Steam version of Oblivion clearly states that with the Steam version you have to install the mod to a seperate location and then copy / paste ALL of the content to your Oblivion folder,

Well this error happens ESPECIALLY when I install nehrim, altought this error has happened once before i tried to reinstall Oblivion, i fixed by deleting their ini file. this error happens when i try installing Nehrim. but just to be sure. I installed Nehrim on another folder. so i have to copy all of it and OVERWRITE my steam oblivion folder files with the nehrim files or just copy the nehrim folder into the steamapps/common. I think overwriting the files may mess up my oblivion files :S

Well if you are worried about loosing the original Oblivion files, there are a few things you can do.
You can make a backup of the game files through Steam, if you already have mods, then make a manual copy of your data folder elsewhere. Or you can use (after you are done with the Nehrim mod) the Varify Intergraty of Game Cache facility via Steam.
Be sure to follow the instructions in the readme that state that any file that has anything to do with Oblivion (mods and / or DLC I assume) must be dissabled or the game will crash.

On Linux no works . I don’t have a drive C and i have Linux native Steam.
Game dont see Linux port Steam.
Oblivion Nehrim and Steam must be installed on drive C:

Game installed both (Oblivion + Nehrim)
I have clean Linux Mint, Steam proton. and
Detroit become human works on my PC. Maybe Nehrim requires more resources than Detroit =)))

«I’ve found a solution that work for me (Steam on C drive and Oblivion + Nehrim on D drive) :
— I’ve created nocheck.txt (thanks for that) in Oblivion + Nehrim folder
— I launched Nehrim to see if the .txt works -> yes
— I launched NehrimInstallSwitch.exe (it’s in Nehrim folder) and choosed to setup the files of Nehrim in Oblivion installation folder
— On steam I launched Oblivion instead of Nehrim and it launched Nehrim 😉 (launch Nehrim directly don’t work)
edit : I didn’t do the thing with the steam.exe»

To avoid the Application error start Oblivion from your steam library. There is no need for the Nehrim Launscher after switching the content files.

thanks. I managed to get to the main menu and see the intro video after following your instructions. I will investigate how to avoid needing to create a savegame on windows prior to playing.
I did not need to switch to Proton 6.3 but I have not yet tried to load a game, either.

Turns out, after reinstalling oblivion and nehrim I can click the New Game button in the Nehrim menu launched via Oblivion, and see the initial video for Nehrim, but once it comes to the character creation and after, it switches to a borked version of Oblivion (I did check before that Oblivion works correctly for some seconds). I have only the Nehrim.esm activated.
for the same reason, I cannot load a Nehrim savegame, since it is missing the master file. I am not sure what went wrong there. Can this by chance be corrected without the Nehrim launcher/data files using the commandline?

Выкинь эту версию. Spiny прав, качай образ ЗИ чистый, а потом пропатч тем, что я выкладывал, так как эти патчи не для 1С, а именно для последней версии Золотого Издания и они официальные.
Думаю, что тот, кому интересно, тему найдет. Нашла же я, хотя вообще-то больше поклонница Морровинда. Но игра мне понравилась. Свежее что-то из серии. Совершенно новый сюжет. И мир красивый. Ну кому может такое не понравиться?
Ва, да это же Обливион!
Лишь похож. Сюжет самостоятельный и довольно интересный. Думаю, любителям Обливиона должно понравиться. Это не плагин. Отдельная игра.
Это не «Мир Забвения», это «Моды и плагины», где Nehrim и место, как игре, разработанной на движке Облы.
Если кто-то будет уверять, что с Обливионом Nehrim не имеет ничего общего, то тема будет удалена с форума Облы, а желающие могут начать новую на общем форуме ^_^

Nehrim — огромный фанатский проект немецкой команды SureAI, который использует платформу TES IV: Oblivion. Это не просто мод, не просто конверсия, а отдельная игра на базе четвёртого The Elder Scrolls, но не имеющая с ним почти ничего общего, кроме движка и внешнего вида. Мир и история Nehrim никак не связаны с миром The Elder Scrolls. ИГРА СТАВИТСЯ И ЗАПУСКАЕТСЯ ОТДЕЛЬНО.
Сюжет повествует о противостоянии людей, богов и судьбы. Людям надоело предопределение свыше — они хотят сами решать за себя. В Нериме происходит ряд революций, в которых вам придется непосредственно поучаствовать. Свобода воли и будущее людей зависят от вас, ведь вы — один из одарённых.

Громадный новый мир

Континент Нерим по размерам приблизительно сравним с Ввандерфеллом (миром Morrowind), поэтому, в действительности, он, немного меньше, чем Сиродиил в Oblivion. Но местность Нерима сделана вручную, и мир более разнообразен, чем скучные леса Oblivion, которые в большинстве своем сделаны генератором лесов.

В отличие от Oblivion, главный квест в Nehrim является центральным. Главный квест не только насыщенный, но еще и длинный. Oblivion вы могли закончить примерно за 10 часов, но Nehrim так быстро пройти не удастся. Кроме основного квеста в Nehrim есть ещё 30 побочных квестов.

Уникальный геймплей

В Nehrim вы повышаете свой уровень, получая очки опыта. Вы получаете опыт, убивая монстров и выполняя задания. Таким образом, у игрока есть реальный мотив проходить задания не только для того, чтобы получить немного золота или научиться что-то делать. При каждом повышении уровня игрок получает «очки знаний», которые могут быть использованы у особых NPC для того, чтобы повысить ваши навыки.

Как гласит заголовок, судьба играет большую роль в истории Nehrim. Как бы то ни было, она преподнесена с немного иной точки зрения, чем обычно. Мы хотели любой ценой избежать злоупотребления рассказами типа «злой некромант угрожает славной империи и хочет заполучить господство над миром». На самом деле, в истории несколько трагических сторон, но. далее это был бы спойлер. Тем не менее, рассказать об истории, которая творится вокруг персонажа, мы можем: Nehrim определенно не идиллическая фэнтезийная империя, которую большинство людей ожидают увидеть. В то время, когда игрок попадает в эту страну, там бушует кровавая гражданская война.
Новые монстры, персонажи, броня, оружие, города, вещи. Эта потрясающая воображение работа теперь и на русском языке.

Nehrim является не модом, а total conversion, и устанавливается как ОТДЕЛЬНАЯ игра! Пожалуйста, при установке следуйте дефолтным путям, НЕ ставьте игру в папку Oblivion, туда автоматически встанут только референсы на ресурсы, не удаляйте, не меняйте и не подключайте их.
Скачайте большой файл, распакуйте и запустите инсталлер, следуйте инструкции. Затем поступить так же с патчем — он ОБЯЗАТЕЛЕН. Патчи обновляются!
