I am hearing you где ошибка

Интересное открытие сделала я для себя самой, когда получила от нескольких нейтивов ‘I hear’ — в значении «я слышал» — не настоящего времени, а «как бы» прошедшего.

Как сказать: «Я слышал в Москве много английских курсов?»
или
«Я слышала, что работа юристов у вас хорошо оплачивается.»

Иногда слова ‘hear’ and ‘heard’ используются носителями языка в значении «слышал» и тем самым могут вызывать замешательство у новичков изучающих английский язык.

Разница ‘hear’ and ‘heard’ в следующем:

I hear — «я слышал» — используется, когда событие продолжающееся действие, вы слышали о нем не однократно из разных источников. Я продолжаю слышать о чем-то/ком-то — т.е. об этом пишут, говорят в СМИ, например.

I hear about NYU — «Я слышала о Нью-Йоркском университете» (из газет, от подруг которые там учились и т.д.)

I heard — «я слышал» — используется, когда событие завершено.

I heard her the piano — «Я слышал как она играет». Законченное действие. Слышал один-два/много раз, но о нем нигде не говорят не пишут.

Другой пример:

I hear they’re building a new restaurant down the street.
I heard they’re building a new restaurant down the street.

Обе фразы переводятся как: «Я слышал они строят новый ресторан на улице.»
Разница первого предложения с ‘I hear’ в том, что оно означает: я слышал об этом в недавнем прошлом от нескольких людей.

Что касается второго предложения с ‘I heard’, то здесь, я услышал новость и все.

Еще пример:

Вы собираетесь на выходные на пикник и слышали прогноз погоды.
В таком случае вы скажете:

I hear the weather will be bad this weekend — Т.е, я слышала об этом в прошлом, но нам это актуально в будущем.

Еще пример:

Мы говорим с американцем об изучении английского.
Он мне задает вопрос:

I hear there are lots of classes in English available there? — «Я слышал, в Москве есть много английских курсов?»

или, мы с ним говорим о предполагаемой для него работе, о которой он наводил справки ранее.
В таком случае он скажет:

I hear that this job is paid very well, is that true? — «Я слышал эта работа не плохо оплачивается, это правда?»
Он слышал об этом из инета, из новостей по ТВ или от друзей.

Не путать ‘I hear’ с настоящим временем, когда действие происходит прямо сейчас и слово ‘to hear’ не говорится в континиусе!

I hear the cats making noise so I better go see what they’re doing — «Я слышу там коты шумят, пойду посмотрю что они там делают».

I hear a child’s voice — «Я слышу детский голос».

Если сомневаетесь, что сказать I hear или I heard — используйте — I heard.

I heard that the acronym ‘OTMA’ has the first letter of Tsar Nicholas II’s daughters, with an extra ‘A’ for his son — Olga, Tatiana, Maria, Anastasia, and Alexei.

глаголы состояния в английском языке

На этом уроке мы продолжим тему настоящего времени, рассмотрим глаголы состояния, не употребляющиеся в длительной форме, а также способы выражения запланированного действия.

Содержание:

  • Глаголы состояния: see, hear, understand и другие.
  • «I see» или «I am seeing»?
  • Запланированное действие.
  • To и from — предлоги направления и времени.
  • Упражнения.
  • Словарь.

Глаголы состояния: see, hear, understand и другие

Ряд глаголов не принято употреблять в длительной форме, даже если действие происходит в настоящий момент. Это глаголы, выражающие действия и состояния, по своей природе не вполне поддающиеся переводу в длительную форму. Например, легко представить, действие to knock (стучать) в виде длительного – кто-то стучит и стучит в дверь без перерыва. Трудно представить длительное действие to understand (понимать), to respect (уважать). Мы либо понимаем, уважаем, либо не понимаем, не уважаем.

Итак, в длительной форме не используют такие глаголы, как:

  • see – видеть,
  • hear – слышать,
  • understand – понимать,
  • know – знать,

I understand you now. – Я понимаю тебя сейчас.

I like this film now. – Мне нравится этот фильм сейчас.

  • Неправильно:

I am understanding you now. – Я понимаю тебя сейчас.

I am liking this film now. – Мне нравится этот фильм сейчас.

Иногда, очень редко, глаголы состояния тоже употребляют в Continuous, но это уже не норма, а стилистический прием, когда нужно подчеркнуть силу, интенсивность какого-то действия. Так построен знаменитый слоган McDonalds: “I’m loving it!” Не просто «я люблю это», а «наслаждаюсь» этим, «получаю удовольствие». Но это исключительные случаи.

«I see» или «I am seeing»?

Некоторые глаголы используются как в форме Simple, так и в Continuous, но в разных значениях. Например, глагол  to see в форме Simple значит «видеть», а в форме Continuous — «видеться, встречаться с кем-то».

I see you now. – Я вижу тебя сейчас.

I am seeing my doctor today. — Сегодня у меня встреча с доктором.

Запланированное действие

В русском языке настоящее время может использоваться для обозначения запланированного действия, каких-то личных планов:

Завтра мы идем на вечеринку (планируем пойти).

В воскресенье мы едем в Диснейленд (собираемся поехать).

В английском языке есть похожая конструкция. Предложение с Present Continuous может выражать запланированное действие:

We are going to party tomorrow. – Завтра мы идем на вечеринку (планируем).

We are going to Disneyland on Sunday. – В воскресенье мы едем в Диснейленд (собираемся).

Похожим образом используется Present Simple, но не для описания личных планов, а для более строгих, официальных случаев, например, для выражения действия, которое должно произойти по расписанию, программе. Типичный пример — расписание транспорта или событий во время мероприятия:

The train arrives in four minutes. – Поезд прибывает через четыре минуты.

10:15 — 10:30 — The Minister speaks. — 10:15 — 10:30 — Министр выступает с речью.

To и from — предлоги направления и времени

Предлоги to и from могут использоваться для указания направления движения и отрезков времени.

Как предлог направления, to значит «к, по направлению к», from — «от»:

I am going to the library tomorrow. — Завтра я иду в библиотеку (планирую пойти).

I go to work every day. — Я хожу на работу каждый день.

They are going from the library. – Они идут из библиотеки.

He is coming back from work. — Он возвращается с работы.

Обратите внимание, что в предложениях типа «Я иду куда-то, в какое-то место» (библиотеку, банк, школу и т. д.) существительное, называющее место, может использоваться с артиклем или без. Как правило, если под, скажем, библиотекой или банком подразумевается не само здание, а его функция, то, за чем туда ходят, артикль не нужен.

I am going to  library. — Я иду в библиотеку (в значении: за книгами).

I am going to school. — Я иду в школу (в значении: на учебу).

Если же подразумевается именно здание, а не функция здания, нужен артикль the (конкретное здание) или aan (какая-то школа или библиотека).

I am going to a library. — Я пойду в библиотеку (в любую).

I am going to the library. — Я пойду в библиотеку (в определенное место).

Смысловая грань между «местом как функцией» и «местом как местом» размыта и ощущается, скорее, не с помощью логики, рассуждений, а интуитивно (это приходит с практикой). Если сомневаетесь, называйте места, здания с артиклем — ошибкой это не будет.

Как предлоги времени to и from значат «от» и «до».

Let’s play basketball from nine to eleven. – Давайте поиграем в баскетбол с девяти до одиннадцати.

He is not at work from six PM, to eight AM. – Его нет на работе с 6 вечера до 8 утра.

Когда речь идет о длительном действии в определенном промежутке времени, используется длительное время глагола (Continuous):

Today I am working from eight to six. – Сегодня я работаю с восьми до шести.

Упражнение

Примечание: в упражнениях встречается слово next в значении «ближайший». У этого слова два основных значения:

  1. Следующий

Who is next? — Кто следующий?

2. Ближайший, соседний.

I live in the next builging (room, street). — Я живу в соседнем здании (комнате, улице).

Здравствуйте! Меня зовут Сергей Ним, я автор этого сайта, а также книг, курсов, видеоуроков по английскому языку.

Подпишитесь на мой Телеграм-канал, чтобы узнавать о новых видео, материалах по английскому языку.

У меня также есть канал на YouTube, где я регулярно публикую свои видео.

I actually know the list by heart. Thank you for all your answers. My main confusion came from the fact the list gave an example of:

Do you hear music?

But as I could only think of hear as a stative verb I was then perplexed by the fact that I had heard I am hearing voices. I mean isn’t it a dynamic verb in the latter example after all? Also, I am aware that dynamic verbs are used in the progressive. Am I wrong? I do not understand why it’s grammatically incorrect to say:

Are you hearing music? (I myself would use can, e.g. Can you hear any music? and avoid that I can’t understand)

It does sound odd to me, but I still don’t understand why is it grammatically untenable. I won’t use it myself, it’s just the Why I don’t understand.

Isn’t hear used as a transitive verb in the case of I am hearing voices with voices being the direct object of it? You can’t really say:

I’m hearing …
but you can say
I am hearing voices
or can you?

If hear is dynamic when it’s transitive, and if in the example above hear is transitive then it’s safe to use it this way. Okay, I think I get it.

But what in the case of Are you hearing music?

Is it possible to have a sentence like this: Are you hearing?

I know there is Are you listening?

Assumingly Are you hearing music is non-existent in the language, can I then use the following argument as to prove its invalidity:

My point: Are you hearing music is impossible, because hear is intransitive, hence it’s stative?

As PaulQ pointed out:

Intransitive — Stative
Transitive — Dynamic

There might be an essential misunderstanding in how I perceive dynamic verbs.

Actually, I think that my main confusion stems from the fact I don’t fully understand dynamic verbs, despite the fact I know the theory. As far as I know dynamic verbs are generally used in the progressive tense.

To me Are you hearing music? is something that is happening either now or around the time of speaking. Do you hear music is odd, because the Present Simple only gives me the idea that in general I am capable of hearing music, which is queer and illogical.
