Product: Color Laserjet MFP M477fnw

Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Sorted through others with this error message, but didn’t see anything conclusive.  According to the service manual the 59.F0 error says to replaced the Drum Assembly Motor which we did, but we are still experiencing the same problem.  Sometimes you can power cycle and get a few print jobs before the error comes up again.  As mentioned we have replaced the drum assembly motor, reseated the transfer unit and updated the firmware.  The service manual gives no other part to try for this specific error.

It sounds like they updated the formatter firmware, not the DC Controller firmware. There are two different firmware that can be updated. Most everyone updates the formatter firmware which is publicly available from HP, but the DC Controller firmware (which is the link I supplied) will fix the 59 error and is not normally publicly available. You should keep this for future issues that you may run into.

On M477 series the 59.F0 error is caused by a defective transfer belt.

From what I’ve read other places, your solution seems the most plausible.  If we opt for the transfer belt (as opposed to replacing the unit), I will let you know how it turns out.  Thanks.

The 59.F0 error is typically the result of a small sensor switch inside the ITB (Intermediate Transfer Belt) assembly that is not working correctly. It will have variable amounts of resistance as it is activated during the course of operation and causes the error. It’s supposed to detect and report to the controller when the plates are moved into position to press the belt into contact for the toner cartridge drums for color printing. HP came out with a new version of firmware for the DC Controller board to ignore this shortly after I brought it to HP’s attention awhile ago. The previous fix was to replace the ITB assy., which worked most of the time, but the firmware update should be tried first as it is quick and simple and we’ve had great success with it so far.

Here’s the link for it:

Yes, you are right. It was the formatter firmware and not the DC Controller Firmware that was updated. Thank you for the distinction. I appreciate the info. Too bad HP doesn’t make that info more public. It would go a long way for customer relations and keep people from switching to a different brand. Thanks again.

as a certified tech it would take me 1.5 hours maybe- for a person with no experience- 4 hours+ and you will need the service manual.

probably best to get a printer tech to do it unless you have mechanical/electrical experience. You can look at the procedure in the service manual- I’ll PM you

**welp, no I won’t the company i get parts / service manuals from does not have a repair manual for the M452- sorry, you might can google search for the service manual- you may have to buy it** sorry

it’s about a 37 step procedure

also, after reviewing the thread- you probably are going to have to replace any empty toners. this part on the transfer belt or associated hardware may have failed due to the printer not being able to calibrate because it was missing one of the colors. If you get new toner- the problem may go away, but I bet the part has worn out or the timing has been thrown off due to the empty cartridge.

I am not a HP employee. I am a service tech on these forums researching topics and offering my best guess to aide in your troubleshooting.

Product: HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M477fdn

Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

As of a few days ago, when I send a job to the printer (via WiFi) the printer fires up, then chokes and I get «Error 59.FO Turn printer off then on again.»  It’s happening 1-2 times a day now.  Supposedly, a fix is to download and run HP_Color_LJ_Pro_MFP_M477-PCL_6_v3_Full_Soln_17171.exe but when I opened the file the only choices I had were to «uninstall software and drivers for this product from this computer,» or «install another HP device.»  I don’t know what to do.  Can anyone help?

Thank you for your response.  IMy printer is still under warranty, so I initiated a chat with support.  But apparently, HP will not authorize a repair until some stranger takes control over my computer and tries remotely to fix a hardware problem (how does that work?).  And I’m at work (it’s my home printer), so nothing was accomplished.

@SharonD,

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).

If you are unfamiliar with how the Support Community’s private message capability works, you can learn about that here.

Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forum.

We have this printer (M477fdn) and we are getting the same error. It is still on warranty so I called HP Tech support. I tried the virtual chat but it is useless in getting help. The HP tech support indeed remotely access my computer (‘though I was hesitant to allow her) to download the firmware because she has to log-in to another portal for her to «get» that firmware.  The USB you want to save the firmware file should be formatted in fat32. I believe this is the only type the printer reads. So I installed the firmware and so far the error is gone. She verified that we are using an HP cartridge and that the ink is not low (I guess if the ink is not genuine and/or it is low, it might trigger that error message also).  She said that if error comes back in few days it is a hardware issue.

The tech commented that this seems to be a common error with this printer and she already had 4 called with the same error before me. I asked if this is common, why is the firmware not available to the public where we can download it. She didn’t have a clear answer.

They probably updated DDC firmware to version 15101.  It’s possible that firmware is still in a testing phase and HP will not release it public until they are sure it will fix this error permanently.

HP are aware of this I nearly sent my printer for recycling as all the info was that the parts would be too expensive to replace. it is solved by a firmware upgrade which took 2 minutes and all seems to be ok now. No need to call engineers or get a new printer this link ftp://dccfw:.Gbu1108@ftp.usa.hp.com

looks like this solved the problem but no idea why when they know there is a problem they dont just tell everyone!!!!!!
