Found a fix :slightly_smiling_face: In Premiere Pro, go to sequence and select delete render files. Then select all of the videos necessary in your timeline and go to sequence and select render selection. I had this same exact problem as you have. Hope this helps :slightly_smiling_face:

Premiere Pro New Features

Getting beyond frustrated with this error since updating to Premiere 2022 last week…

I am currently trying to edit a wedding film and this error pops up just about every 30 seconds and my clips turn black.

My clips just become black in the timeline and or don’t play back at all in the program monitor after this error pops up.

My clips playback fine in the source window and no files are corrupt.. but in the timeline / program monitor they don’t play. Very confusing.

The clips are from a Canon c70 (.mxf files). Shot in 4k 60fps and interpreted to 23.976

My sequence settings are very standard. 4k 23.976fps.

I also have .braw files in the project too but it’s only happening to my .mxf files.

I’ve seen a couple other threads about this issue and have tried the other ‘solutions’ but none of them seem to be working. Im a week late now on this project with no end in site because of this..

What I am working with:

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Im on the verge of totally restarting this project in Final Cut but that is my last resort..

As always Adobe breaks things with updates. I have almost completely stopped using Dynamic Linking as that causes a total nightmare of problems. So I export a file from AE and import that file into Premiere, and visa versa.

But today when doing this my AE export needed tweaking a bit. The speed and position were not quite right. And this would have been noticed right away if I could rely on Dynamic Linking to actually work.

So I popped back into AE and adjusted the speed and position a bit to better fit this into my Premiere sequence. I exported a ProRes 422 file and copied that into the folder where I keep my exports. I replaced the older file and them went into Premiere to see how this one looked.

Well, it didn’t look different at all. And then the errors started piling up:

And pile up they did, every time I tried to play anything at all.

This is after deleting a bunch of them. One would think 1 message might be enough, or maybe 1 every few minutes, but this just keeps popping up… We will beat you over the head to get your attention, as if it not actually updating the video on playback or that stuttering playback would be missed.

Its an exciting Frame substitution recursion error… or in layman’s terms, Adobe Premiere is too stupid to realize that the file has been updated and it should use the new one since the name is the same. Never mind previous versions worked just fine when doing this.

I tried closing the project and re-opening it. Nope. Problem persists. I play back the file to make sure it is OK, and it is indeed OK.

I try replacing the file with itself, or rather the new version of itself. That cures nothing.

So I restart Premiere and it plays correctly.

Then I try this all again and see if it reoccurs. It does.

Personally I must have done this hundreds or even thousands of times in the past and it works most of the time, really pretty much all the time. And I am sure that is true for many of my readers out there.

Clearly Adobe, you have broken something in Premiere, again. Great job on yet another flawless rollout of a new version!!
