I always get an error (error code 0x80242020) when trying to download something with the xbox beta app. I’m subscribed to the service and signed in with the good account.

I did some digging and found this on a Microsoft post about it and it’s working perfect for me. Installing to my HDD instead of my C: drive currently.

Either select the link under the message to go to Settings, or press the Windows key and selecting Settings > System > Storage. Select Change where new content is saved.

Worked for me aswell. Another way would be to start the Xbox (Beta) App -> Settings -> General -> Drive Selection. If you want to swap the directory there it will pop up the same window you discriped.
*Note*
Some games seem to wand more options changed to your desired HDD than «New apps». I had the issue with Ori f.e. and I swapped the option for photos & videos, films & programmes and offline maps. After that the installation went flawless.

I did this along with a restart of my PC and it worked! I am also saving to a new HHD. I have tried so many things before this…… Xbox Game Pass on PC has been such a huge pain in the ass so far. But, it is getting better. Along with a restart, this should work for you as well.

Yeah I think so. Some games needs to be installed on the C drive, and if you change the default directory to anything else it won’t work.

As a PC gamer who plays a lot of games, we suspect you’ve downloaded many titles from the Microsoft Store, and have tool full advantage of the Xbox app. Now, the more games and apps you download the more data the Microsoft Store will save in its cache.
When the cache reaches a certain limit, it could trigger error code 0x80242020. If that is the case, we need to purge the cache and set things back to normal. Now, there are two ways we can get this done, and as expected we will explain both.
To get things moving, you must first fire up the Settings app. To do this simple thing, please press the Windows key + I. The app should promptly appear with many options to choose from.
After launching the Settings app, go on ahead and click Apps via the left pane, then waste no time by selecting Apps & Feature from the right pane.
