Risk Vs. Reward
During the recent IPC APEX expo, there was a lot of discussion about SAP, or semi-additive PCB processes. As with any new technology in PCB manufacturing, there were people that are excited to jump right in and start designing with much finer feature sizes and work through the inevitable changes to the traditional thought process. Others are in a let’s wait and see mode and of course there are a few skeptics there as well. There were a few stand

Designing General PCB Controller for your Circuit Board Layout
I always thought that to be successful you need to emulate the success of others. When I started my career, there weren’t any single board computers like Raspberry Pi, and no one took Arduino seriously for industrial applications. You can imagine how bad it was the first time I did maintenance on a general purpose controller that I designed. It was a fire alarm controller that had over 50 wires manually screwed onto it. I had to replace a faulty

7 Common Misconceptions about PCB Design
After years of PCB assembly, you probably know about a decoupling capacitor, a solder mask, and schematic symbols like the back of your hand. Right? Brace yourself. We’re about to challenge everything you ever thought you knew about printed circuit board design. Well, maybe not everything. Seven things. Everyone holds to certain misconceptions when designing: things they’ve been taught, things they heard, things they learned firsthand (right

Common SMT Defects to Avoid During Soldering
Soldering robot for PCB assembly As more designs are using smaller components with surface-mount pads, Surface-mount Technology (SMT) soldering defects can mount and impact yields due to various design and manufacturing problems. These problems may have been minor and had a negligible effect on yields in the past, but they can cause rework costs to mount quickly and should be avoided. Here is a basic SMT defect list you can avoid during design

PCB Core vs. Prepreg Material: What Designers Need to Know
I sometimes get questions from designers that want to know more about the PCB material selection and manufacturing process. Although I’m not a manufacturer, it behooves designers to understand something about the materials they have available when working on a new project. One question I get is on the exact differences between PCB core vs. prepreg materials. The terms are sometimes used interchangeably, including by novice designers; I’ll admit I

Creating a Ground Plane for Your PCB Design
It used to be that printed circuit boards seemed to have the same basic layer configuration, or at least that’s the way I tend to remember it. This meant that they were usually six layer multi-layer boards, with a ground plane and a VCC plane. The old CAD systems didn’t really have the ability to do much with power planes except to designate layers as a bottom layer or the like. The most you would see in them would be some “X’s” where there was

Capturing Key Design Details in PCB Documentation
One of the most important yet often avoided aspects of documenting a design is the formal design document. Too often we finish the design, generate fabrication, assembly, and validation documents then consider the job done. Properly capturing the system specification, design intent, design process and traceability back to the specification is a time-consuming and arduous yet very necessary task. The design document must capture all aspects of the

EMC Certification and Your Product
I’ve spent most of my career in electronics working with or for small businesses and startups, and helping them shape ideas into a physical product. Some recurring misconceptions I faced with almost every client were regarding Electromagnetic Compatibility compliance. Many had no idea that their products would need EMC testing, some were unaware of the duration of time and cost of certification, and others were unaware of how requirements applied

Topic: Altium Library footprint not found [SOLVED] (Read 11042 times)
0 Members and 1 Guest are viewing this topic.
So i’m moving my MySQL database from AD16 to AD19.
I’ve got my DBLib up and running, coupled and everything.
When i browse my library in components, everything comes into view. So Schematic gets rendered, Footprint also.
I’ve updated the components in my schematic from my library, everything imported great.
When i try to import them in the PcbDoc -> Failed to add component class.
So take im taking a look at the component itself, looking at the properties.
The footprint is coupled, id is coupled, footprint is found.
Except, when i click on the edit footprint it says that the footprint is not found.
Anyone knowing what this issue is about ?
My paths do not contain spaces.. I’m scratching my head here..

Ok, this is due to the table name changing.
There does not seem to be an easy way to change the table name for each component when the database changed a bit.
Casing matters also!

For reference:
The component table needs to be correct /w the correct case.
AD16 let’s you overwrite to a new table name, while AD19 does not let you do it via the update from libraries function.
On AD19 i had to move all my SchLib and PcbLib files into 1 folder where my DBLib resided.
Else it could not resolve the path for the PcbLib file.
There is another thread on this forum where a user suggests this as a solution. So if you’re having this issue, try it.

Class Document Source Message Time Date No.
