In ddraw.ini, in the [input] section, change BackgroundKeyboard to 1 and see if that fixes the error. If it doesn’t change BackgroundMouse to 1 too.

Have the same issue. I’m trying to play on windows tablet with no keyboard and mouse. Only touch screen. Put 1 into config for keyboard and mouse but that didn’t help. Still get error about input thing.
Solution for «failure initializing input devices fallout 2 problem» and «an unsupported version of fallout 2 detected» for windows 7.
1) Don’t install game in progam files directory — install in C:/fallout2 for example.
2) If you used old CD with fallout 2 to install it you won’t have ddraw.ini.
3) Patch your game from 1.0 to 1.02 — download «f2v102eu patch» (if you got patched version than don’t bother about this step)
4) Patch the game with high resolution pack — download patch,extract it in folder with your fallout2.exe file(you need
Fallout2_High_Resolution_Patch_4.1.7.exe )
5) open «manually edit config» inside patch program (f2_res_Config.exe)and change ALT_MOUSE_INPUT=0 to ALT_MOUSE_INPUT=1 value,than
click enable patch and click done.

I recently purchased Fallout from Steam and installed it only to find an error that says «Failure Initializing Input Devices» pop up whenever I try to start it. Unlike some people I wasn’t even able to start the game once. Any help/support would be greatly appreciated as I have been wanting to play this game for a long time now.

Кемп: P4 2.4, Radeon 9000Pro2, 768mb Ram, Windows XP.
На игру поставил только руссификатор и то что тут на сайте было (видео, головы и тд.). -

А! И ещё, я помоему (но точно не помню) поставил патч который был в архиве с игрой.

Cпасибо, действительно заработало. Ну а теперь можно собрать все инструкции воедино:
Для запаковки понадобятся программы DatExplorer и DatRepairer. Не забудте сделать резервные копии. А буду считать, что игровая директория называется FALLOUT21. распаковываем DatExplorer в FALLOUT2
14. После этого осталось заменить строчку в файле FALLOUT2fallout2.cfg :
c master_dat=.master
на master_dat=.master.dat
15. Теперь тестируем игру.
16. Если все работыет нормально, то можно удалить папку FALLOUT2master, файл master.dat.repПримечания:
1)mastertextenglishdialogzcSlave.msg имеет размер 0 байт. Без него игра запускется, но при встрече с рабами могут начаться проблеммы. Если это у меня архив битый, пожалуйста вышлите рабочий файл на cah51o@yahoo.com, если же это рип поломанный, тогда те, кто имеют CD версию могли бы скинуть текст файла в эту тему.
2)в папке masterscripts есть два файла, которые не хотят паковаться: scripts.lnk, networkscripts.lnk. Судя по всему это просто ярлыки, и они нигде не используются.
3)Не желающиие лезть в коммандную строку могут создать run.bat c таким содержимым:DatRepairer.exe master.dat

Да, судя по всему файл zcSlave.msg действительно нулевой и в оригинальной версии. Но это вроде-бы не критично.
Файлы ярлыков, которые не хотят копироваться судя по всему тоже не играют никакой роли, то есть являются «мусором».
Но, при внимательном рассмотрении оказывается, что в выложенном на этом сайте рипе не хватает нескольких действительно важных файлов. Это содержимое диретории artbackgrnd во вновь создаваемом))) файле master.dat
В наличии есть только файл BACKGRND.LST, в котором содержится список всех необходимых файлов.
Порыскав по закромам мне удалось найти все недостающие файлы. В архиве они занимают всего 480КБ.
Если кому-то они нужны, могу выслать. Хотя, лучше было бы их выложить здесь.И главное, после добавления файлов в master.dat никогда не забывать чинить его при помощи DatRepairer!)))))

Что-то у меня не ладится с фолом первым. Установил вроде все как надо, но при запуске вылетает ошибка «Failure initializing input devices». Что это за input devices он не может инициализировать, клаву чтоли
? Подскажите как это побороть плз. -
Уточни про «вроде как надо» и расскажи про свой компутер в подробностях (см. правила).

Устанавливал я его в соответствии с сообщением 16 данного топика.
Компутер у меня следующий: P4 2.4, 512 оперативки, Asus 128 видео, стоит win2k (может именно поэтому глючит, поделитесь опытом на чем вы его запускали).
mem выдал следующее:
655360 байт — всего обычной памяти
655360 байт — доступно для MS-DOS
633536 максимальный размер исполняемой программы
1048576 байт — всего непрерывной дополнительной памяти
0 байт — доступно непрерывной дополнительной памяти
941056 байт — доступной памяти XMS
резидентная часть MS-DOS загружена в сегмент HMA -
MEM мне твой нафиг не нужен, если только ты не играешь в ДОС-версию Фолла.
Скорее всего дело в том, что ты сидишь на Win2K — у нас всё нормально с Win98, Win95 и WinXP. Насчёт ME не знаю, а вот 2К наверняка с Фоллом не дружит из-за его возраста. -

Интересный глюк в фолле первом. Во время драки, когда я кого-нибудь ударю, в окошке с сообщениями пишется, что я нанес 457376 хитов урона или около того. Есть у кого-нибудь идеи, что это за фигня и как от нее избавится?

Привет! Люди, будьте ангелами, помогите несчастной девушке!!
Я тут недавно скачала Fallout 1, но не с этого сайта. Но у меня возникли проблемы следующего характера:
1. После разархивации игра грузится только один раз, при повторном запуске возникает ошибка следующего характера: «Application Error: The instruction at 004c0494 referenced memory at 4c454d49. The memory could not be written.»
2. Это английская версия. Как её можно русифицировать?ПОМОГИТЕ, КТО-НИБУДЬ, НУ ХОТЬ КТО-НИБУДЬ!!

А вообще то смотрим на ее конфиг и ужасаемся. На этом, при таком количстве оперативы, ВыньХР стоит. А проблемки как раз из-за памяти… вобщем рекомендую поставить Windows 98.

У меня было 96 метров рамы+МД ХР и Фол работал нормально (собсно и не тока Фол). Хотя проц тогда раза в 4 пошустрее стоял, чем у нее

Наверняка все лишнее нафиг выключал, а поскольку мы не знаем что там у нее намудрено…Ну а пока самым оптимальным вариантом только перескачать откуда нить еще.

I’ve done a search, but I haven’t been able to figure out how to fix this problem. When I tryto run Fallout after the Humongeous installation under Windows XP I get a black screen, then the Windows error message «failure initializing input devices». Could anyone help me?
