I am inserting external Drives but they are not showing up. I went to disk utility and I tried First Aid and then mounting and I keep on getting «could not mount «New Volume». (com.apple.diskmanagement.disenter [error -119930872.)]
error message. I tried it with multiple drives and in multiple user profiles on the same Mac. Any help is appreciated.

I am having the same issue. I get the message: Could not mount “New Volume”. (com.apple.DiskManagement.disenter error -119930878.). It initially worked but when I moved some files from my machine to make room for Monterey update, I am getting this message. So many important files are in this drive and I haven’t seen anything that could be of help anywhere else. Let me know if you get it to work and I will if I do on my end.
Good luck!.
same issue here. Very problematic. I am certain it is not a problem with the hard drive. all 5 of my drives are doing the same thing — same error code. Just started recently. Apple broke something and needs to fix
Am seeing same issue when am trying to connect external hardisk, is there any resolution to this issue ? am on Mac Monterey version.
I got this error when trying to use a USB 3.1 HD plugged into a USB-C docking station on my MacBook Pro. When I tried on a Mac Mini with its own USB Type-A ports, the drive mounted happily. Makes me think the error could be a problem with the adapter.
The «fix» for me is log out the existing user and then log right back in, same user, no changes. The drives appear in finder and disk util and work as expected.
I spent an hour+ with Apple support and their answers were to «repair the drive», «run first aid», and «reinstall the OS». Starting in recovery mode, the drives show up and are mounted. As soon as I restart normally, the same issue…drives are unable to be mounted.
I am not sure why the process of logging out and back in and booting into recovery mode can’t illuminate what might be the issue.
Log out and back in…drives visible and usable. But every time you disconnect the drives you have to do the same thing in order to mount them.

com.apple.
Что такое Com.apple.DiskManagement.disenter Ошибка -119930868?

Com.apple.DiskManagement.disenter -119930868?

I tried to install High Sierra and ran into an error. I’d start the installer, my mac would reboot and appear to be installing. I’d get the screen saying 40 minutes left….. 39 minutes left….etc. Then after a couple minutes I’d get a screen with an error. It says
«macOS could not be installed on your computer The operation couldn’t be completed. (com.apple.DiskManagement.disenter error -119930878). Quit the installer to restart your computer and try again.»
If I try again, it does the same thing. I was able to boot holding option+command+r and reinstall Sierra after erasing and performing first aid. But again facing same error.

Well, based on that narrative I would guess you have a bad download. If you normally use Wi-Fi to connect to the Internet, then I suggest you try using Ethernet instead.
Clean Install of El Capitan or Later on a Clean Disk
- Restart the computer. Immediately after the chime hold down the (Command-Option-R) keys until a globe appears.
- The Utility Menu will appear in from 5-20 minutes. Be patient.
- Select Disk Utility and click on the Continue button.
- When Disk Utility loads select the drive (usually, the out-dented entry) from the side list.
- Click on the Erase tab in Disk Utility’s main window. A panel will drop down.
- Set the partition scheme to GUID.
- Set the Format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.)
- Click on the Apply button, then click on the Done button when it activates.
- Quit Disk Utility and return to the Utility Menu.
- Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.
Note:
1. To install the version of OS X that was currently installed use Command-Option-R.
2. To install the original factory version when the computer was new use Command-Option-Shift-R.

How large is the downloaded file? It should be about 5GBs. When you tried re-downloading did you put the first file in the Trash?
Feb 15, 2018 8:30 PM in response to praveen221
You erased the drive before attempting to reinstall macOS, is that correct? If not, then I suggest you try that next.
What is the exact Mac model that you have? To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities’ folder. It’s displayed in the panel on the right. You may also find the complete model information by selecting About This Mac from the Apple menu.
What version of macOS were you upgrading?

It’s possible that there is a soft error on your drive where the installer resides that is causing the error. I’ve had that happen a couple of times. I use Disk Utility to perform First Aid, then try again. If that doesn’t work you can try adding another file to the drive which will cause the installer to download to a different location. This will only work on an HDD, not on an SSD. Nevertheless, having erased the drive before you tried installing macOS suggests there may be a problem with the drive or the RAM that is causing that error. I have never seen it but the type of error, diskmanagement, suggest looking at the drive.
If you have an external USB 3.0 drive, then you might try installing on it. If that works then your drive most likely is the culprit.

Diskmanagement.disenter.
- Наконец, выполните приведенную ниже команду [replace diskX with your volume identifier].diskutil repairVolume/diskX
Diskmanagement.disenter 119930868, 119930872, 49218, 49223, 0.

here’s odd one!
1 of our 2015 macbook air notebooks in office crashed , became unbootable after user clicked high sierra upgrade sierra on it.
tried sorts of things working again, including both internet recovery , regular recovery. each time, partially install high sierra , stop error saying, «macos not installed on computer», followed specific error code mentioned in message subject line.
have identically configured air (8gb ram, 512gb ssd, core i7) upgraded sierra high sierra without problems @ all, should work!
thing able problem machine installing sierra usb thumb drive. did that, of user’s data accessible again (nothing lost, thankfully!) , working normally.
tried running high sierra upgrade again fresh app store download, hoping original issue stupid user powering computer off in middle of upgrade process. nope! exact same error , resulting unbootable machine.
computer passes apple hardware tests flying colors , seems fine running sierra.
oddity realized when on sierra, looks filesystem using journaled case-sensitive version, opposed non case-sensitive. case-sensitive volume enough cause failure when tries convert apfs during high sierrs upgrade??

I have the same problem continuously ever since I upgraded to big Sur. I am currently on Version 11.4. I have tried everything including running First Aid on all my external drives (I have 3 one of them is an SSD), but nothing helps. It is so annoying with in the middle of my work, two drives drop off! These days it happens 3 or 4 times a day!
SOme one suggested that I take Energy Saver off ‘Default’ for a little while it seemed to work now back to the same annoying Big Sur performance!
I have ALSO been having Drive and disk issues. This new bigSur MacOS is not as great as previous builds. Some things are nice and cool about it, others are absolutely terrible, like the finder window and toolbar space…. But back to the drives…. Mac OS Big Sur will trip on my external ExFat drives most notably after they are mounted on my windows 10 pc. I could also tie the issue to windows except that my older macbook running high sierra does not present those issues. Can you guys Downgrade/upgrade diskutil, and disk utility to that of older versions of Mac OS when First Aid actually fixed something, or gave us more controls to fix drives, permissions and etc?
I had the same problem on Mac OS Big Sur. Western Digital My Passport for Mac 5TB formatted exFAT. After 6 hours I came back and it had magically mounted. Eject, reconnect, mount OK in seconds.
Reboot your mac. I had the same issue. Reboot helped me.
Hi all,
I have the same issue, where all my external drives stopped mounting after I upgrade to Big Sur. The problem is that they do not even show up in the Disk Utility app. It really upsets me since it is nearly 30 TB worth of data! I have tried all things posted here, but none worked.
This solution worked for me, after searching and trying all possible solutions on multiple forums. Some context: Running MacOS Big Sur 11.6, Disk utility first aid said «seems to be ok», fsck_exfat returned «seems to be ok», disk was showing up on Disk utility but could not be mounted.
Run «sudo /sbin/mount_exfat /dev/disk2s2 /Volumes/External-HDD/» on the terminal. Enter account password when prompted. My disk was formatted as exfat (use mount_<your disk format type>) and diskutil list showed the disk identifier as disk2s2. You have to first mkdir /Volumes/External-HDD/. Hope this helps.
Hey guys. I use 4 Seagate drives (8 TB Sata Enterprise v5). They aren’t raids but are each a different drive that I use — Drive 1, Backup to Drive 1, Drive 2, Backup to Drive 2.
I inserted the backup drives in Orico’s 2 bay hdd docking station (model: 6629US3) a week back in my MacBook Pro 16′ 2020 that I had updated to Big Sur 2 weeks back. The hard drives Back up 1 & Back up 2 didn’t show connectivity. I assumed it’s the docking station’s error, I kept the drives back on a table to resolve issue later.
The only change in anything is I upgraded to Big Sur from Catalina, rest is all as it was.
2 days ago, I switched On my Main drive 1 & Main drive 2 (not raid), which are always connected but they showed no response.
-
The hard drives is showing as disk2s2 and disks2s3 on the left panel in Disk Utility.
-
I tried mounting it, no response.
-
I tried mounting it through terminal command, didn’t work. (Could not mount ‘disk2s2’ .com.apple.Diskmanagement.dis enter error -119930868)
-
I tried repairing it through First Aid, error. (First Aid process has failed. If possible, back up the data on this volume, etc)
-
I then called on a technician in the city, a hardware expert, he claims that it may be the OS of the drive that’s corrupt and needs reinstallation for which he asked me to write to Seagate. (The only explanation I think)
-
HDD Docking station is working fine on other drives.
-
I have 2 HDD Docking stations. Both are working fine.
-
I have tried to switch USB cables, electric cables on the docking stations.
-
I have tried different power supplies.
-
I have tried the drives on Big Sur, Catalina and Sierra. No luck.
-
I have tried it on Intel MacBook Pro 16′ 2020 (BigSur), MacBook Pro 2015, MacBook Pro 2015 late, MacBook Air 2012 (Catalina), MacBook Pro 2011 (Sierra).
-
The drives have been in the studio and nobody handles them but me.
-
Drives haven’t been physically damaged or repaired or any of that.
-
Mostly AC is On in the studio.
-
When I connect the drives, the drives switch on and there’s regular movement inside it seems. They’re heating up the usual way, the inside disc seems to roll regularly.
The drives have my career long data in them and I think I did everything right in the textbook and made backups. I have to recover them — there’s no way I can quit on them or I can erase them.
How can 4 drives stop working like that. It’s not like the data has any corporate espionage. I’m a Producer.
Either it’s some weird issue with Seagate or Big Sur or inter dimensional beings are messing up with me.
Help, help, help.
Same problem here. Please fix.
Check your anti-virus to see if you have a setting to not allow external media.
I went through all of the steps, typing in the Terminal line, running Disk Utility First Aid, trying to make the disk mount…
Nothing worked.
Finally made an appointment with Apple Care, the technician did an diagnostic, and they figured out it was the virus protection they sold me (ESET) that was blocking it. A simple checkbox. Argh! But fixed now.
Ok people, I spent 4 hours researching and trying all the solutions out there and finally found a fix that worked for me and wasn’t mentioned in any of the answers submitted.
First of all, my machine is a mac mini 2018, 1TB ssd, 64GB of ram, i7 processor. Latest Big Sur MacOS version.
You will need an additional Window PC at hand.
What I did:
1- Installed APFS for Windows app from Paragon ltd on my PC.
2- Connected my external SSD and mounted it: which makes it now able to be read from and written to from my PC
3- Just explored the content through my window explorer browser: Opened a couple of folders, 2 or 3 levels down.
4- Unmounted it(I think this is quite an important step not to be skipped as Windows usually allows us to do that without issue but I suspect that the unmounting process somehow participate restoring the drive registry to a format that Big Sur will now be able to detect)
5- Connect the drive to the mac: It should now be detected and work as usual.
Hopefully this will save time and a few tears to some people. Nothing else worked for me.
Best
JG
This is what fixed exFAT partition is not mounting.
Fsck was doing some work forever on that partition. Using ps aux | grep fsck showed the drive being busy.
sudo pkill -f fsck worked and the drive basically auto mounted.
Found the answer on stack exchange but can’t link it due to saying «https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/293390/macos-cant-mount-exfat-external-drive»

Had a similar issue. 2-3 USB devices working properly on any computer stopped working on a student computer.
Struggled with searches then in Security I saw the student had the Firewall on…… Tried to turn off and apparently she made a setup to block USB connections !!!!!
Since then I’ve been able to connect USB devices again. Took me an hour to figure this out……. And student next to me staring at her computer all the time.
An alternate «solution» if you’re a numpty like me:
If external drives are mounting normally in Disk Utility but not appearing in Finder, they might just be hidden from view in Finder. I didn’t realise that the little arrow next to «Locations» in the sidebar of Finder windows had been minimised, so any external drives were invisible even when mounted.
This isn’t a solution, just another situation people might encounter.
Have and iMac, MacBook Pro and Mac mini running Big Sur 11.6.5. New seagate 8tb external drive formatted in disk utility works great. Until it’s moved to another computer. MacBook Pro and mini will not mount. Cannot see the drive in disk utility on any other computer. Same issue when plugging in to iMac running high sierra or mac studio running monterey. Only works on the first iMac. An hour call with seagate and Apple turned up nothing. They are baffled. Reformatted drive on original iMac to ex fat, then apfs, then back to journaled, doesn’t make a difference. I had another new 8tb seagate drive formatted on the high sierra iMac and it works on every computer. There is something wrong with Big Sur.
I just updated to macOS Ventura beta 1 and now my external drive won’t mount. I can see it in Disk Utility, but when I choose mount I get an error: «Could not mount “NIKON D3200”. (com.apple.DiskManagement.disenter error 53249.)»
