Are you certail the file is a JPEG file? Just because the filename ends with .jpg does not mean it is a JPEG. It might also be corrupt or a JPEG 2000 file. Saved from Photoshop JPEG 2000 files usually end .jpf, but they can also end .jpg and open fine in Phtoshop. JPEG 2000 files cannot be placed in InDesign. Have you tried resaving as JPEG?

Is its file type one of the supported types? See a list on Supported file formats for InDesign (it says «CS5» but actually I don’t believe the list has changed in the past decade – except for the very latest version, which added SVG).
Also, remember that changing a file extension does not magically make the file a correct type! You cannot rename a file from, say, «document.pages» (which would be an Apple Pages file) to «document.docx» and expect it to work.

Are you able to open up the image in Photoshop? If so you can save it as a .PSD, or export it to a JPEG or PNG. Any of those formats can be placed in InDesign.

Has there been any other sort of resolution? I am having the same issue right now. I’m working on Windows 10, trying to place a PSD file into my InDesign document. Using the latest version of CC for all programs. I’ve also saved the PSD as a PNG and JPEG with the same problem ensuing.

If you’re not able to import it in most any format, my suspicion is either the file itself is corrupted or you have a problem with the filename. This often happens on the Windows platform, where files created/saved on the Mac platform can introduce characters not compatible with Windows file conventions. This can also happen occasionally with files saved in Windows, but more commonly happens with files being passed from Mac to Windows systems.
Would you please share the filename with us? That way we can help identify/rule out file naming as an issue.

I had the same problem, trying to place an image which was already in the indd doc on another page 
However re-saving the image with a shorter file name worked so maybe it was a server thing.

Had the same issue today with a PDF downloaded from the web. I opened the PDF in Acrobat, saved it on the desktop then dropped that version in which worked fine. I tried a couple of other PDFs and they worked so it must have been something in the file it didn’t like 🤷:male_sign:

Normally InDesign should recognize the file type.
But I am aware on 2 issues:
- If the extenson is missing/mistyped (also on the Mac) InDesign does in the latest version not recognize the file type. Solution: add the correct extension.
- Sometimes the image needs to be opened in Photoshop and saved again in Photoshop and InDesign will recognize it correctly. But don’t do it with a PDF. Open the PDF in Acrobat Pro and save it with a new name. With an AI file, open it and save it again as AI or PDF/X-4 file in lllustrator.

So the file I’m trying to place in InDesign 2020 is a file I’ve place before with no problem. It’s a vector eps and when I try to open it in either Photoshop or Illustrator, I get error messages. I’m having this problem with other vector eps files so it’s not isolated to one file. Photoshop/Illustrator/Indesign also won’t open other file formats of this file. Please advise.

Для начала назвать импортируемый файл *.doc латинскими буквами и переместить его в корневой каталог C:
Это действие уберёт русские буквы из полного пути в названии файла. После этого фильтр импорта заработает.
В InDesign: File > Place (Ctrl+D), нажать Shift и щелкнуть по текстовому фрейму (в смысле, над текстовым фреймом, который просвечивает из шаблона), если нужно, чтобы фреймы и страницы добавлялись автоматически.
Alt+Shift и щелчок по фрейму,- добавляет текст только в уже существующие фреймы и страницы.Если текст находится в буфере обмена, необходимо «набрать текст в курсор». Для этого командой Ctrl+V вставить в документ маленький текстовый фрейм, и передвинуть его за пределы документа. Затем нажать на красный крестик этого фрейма… А дальше,- уже по вышеописанному сценарию. Не забыть потом удалить фрейм, находящийся за пределами документа.
Нюанс. Чтобы текст перетекал по всем страницам документа, текстовые фреймы на мастере должны быть первоначально связаны между собой.

Are you certail the file is a JPEG file? Just because the filename ends with .jpg does not mean it is a JPEG. It might also be corrupt or a JPEG 2000 file. Saved from Photoshop JPEG 2000 files usually end .jpf, but they can also end .jpg and open fine in Phtoshop. JPEG 2000 files cannot be placed in InDesign. Have you tried resaving as JPEG?

Is its file type one of the supported types? See a list on Supported file formats for InDesign (it says «CS5» but actually I don’t believe the list has changed in the past decade – except for the very latest version, which added SVG).
Also, remember that changing a file extension does not magically make the file a correct type! You cannot rename a file from, say, «document.pages» (which would be an Apple Pages file) to «document.docx» and expect it to work.

Are you able to open up the image in Photoshop? If so you can save it as a .PSD, or export it to a JPEG or PNG. Any of those formats can be placed in InDesign.

Has there been any other sort of resolution? I am having the same issue right now. I’m working on Windows 10, trying to place a PSD file into my InDesign document. Using the latest version of CC for all programs. I’ve also saved the PSD as a PNG and JPEG with the same problem ensuing.

If you’re not able to import it in most any format, my suspicion is either the file itself is corrupted or you have a problem with the filename. This often happens on the Windows platform, where files created/saved on the Mac platform can introduce characters not compatible with Windows file conventions. This can also happen occasionally with files saved in Windows, but more commonly happens with files being passed from Mac to Windows systems.
Would you please share the filename with us? That way we can help identify/rule out file naming as an issue.

I had the same problem, trying to place an image which was already in the indd doc on another page 
However re-saving the image with a shorter file name worked so maybe it was a server thing.

Had the same issue today with a PDF downloaded from the web. I opened the PDF in Acrobat, saved it on the desktop then dropped that version in which worked fine. I tried a couple of other PDFs and they worked so it must have been something in the file it didn’t like 🤷:male_sign:

Normally InDesign should recognize the file type.
But I am aware on 2 issues:
- If the extenson is missing/mistyped (also on the Mac) InDesign does in the latest version not recognize the file type. Solution: add the correct extension.
- Sometimes the image needs to be opened in Photoshop and saved again in Photoshop and InDesign will recognize it correctly. But don’t do it with a PDF. Open the PDF in Acrobat Pro and save it with a new name. With an AI file, open it and save it again as AI or PDF/X-4 file in lllustrator.

So the file I’m trying to place in InDesign 2020 is a file I’ve place before with no problem. It’s a vector eps and when I try to open it in either Photoshop or Illustrator, I get error messages. I’m having this problem with other vector eps files so it’s not isolated to one file. Photoshop/Illustrator/Indesign also won’t open other file formats of this file. Please advise.

Whenever stocks/prices change these spreadsheets are edited by that department, I open the catalogue design .indd file and update the linked spreadsheets in the design with the ‘modified links’ prompt. This has been working brilliantly for a number of years now and keeps all the different departments happy with their roles in the updating process.
I’ve opened the document this week and all the spreadsheet files are returning error symbols in the links panel. When I try to relink them, I recieve the error box «Cannot Place this file. No filter found for requested operation.»
The file types being linked are .xlsx files. I’ve tried opening the file in two versions of InDesign — Adobe InDesign CC 2019 (14.0.3) and Adobe InDesign 2020 (15.1.3) I’ve tried closing and relaunching and resaving the spreadsheets and turning the computer itself off and on again and am stumped. Any help appreciated!

Жил я, жил… все работало … почти год…
и тут вдруг мой (достаточно сложный) скрипт импорта в верстку картинок мне говорит:

Унинсталлил / переинсталлил индизайн — тот же результат.

Не может быть причиной написанное русскими буквами название файла или одного из каталогов в цепи доступа к файлу? (Может, раньше другой каталог был для данных)

русские буквы в пути конечно есть были и будут — раньше это не мешало.
Руками картинка (как ни странно) плейсится замечательно.
Сел «помедитировал» и вспомнил что произожло это примерно в то время когда была неудачная попытка установки пакета обновления 5.0.х на параллельно стоящий ID CS3. Обновление не стало ничего не объяснив. Ну я плюнул и забил. А теперь вот вспомнил…
Удалил CS3 вобще с компа, потом удалил CS2, потом почистил папочки Adobe, потом поставил поновой CS2 — РЕЗУЛЬТАТ ТОТ ЖЕ

Возникла такая проблема: не могу импортировать таблицу из .xls файла в InDesign CS2. Посылает меня следующим образом: «Cannot place this file. No filter found for requested operation.»
При импорте этого же файла в InD 3, он нормально вставляется, но форматирование оригинального файла не сохраняется, хотя таблица импортируется как «Formatted table»
Как мне со всем этим бороться?
Путь и имя Excel-овских (и Word-овских тоже) не должны содержать кириллицы.
P.S.
Вопрос FAQ-овый. Делай вывод.
Настройки Import Options. Возможно вы их изменяли, вставляя что-то до этого.
I’ve posted on Adobe community pages about this too and it’s a bit of a mystery!
I update the product catalogue for our company in InDesign each time there’s a change to a product or price. The catalogue is an .indd file with a bunch of linked spreadsheets that get edited by the products department (who notify me when they’ve made changes.) I then open up the .indd document and use the modified links prompt to update all the links and then export the new catalogue PDF, and this is how we’ve been doing it for over a year.
I opened the file up last week and it is struggling to update any of the links, there’s just a sea of little yellow error symbols, but when I try to relink them or fix the errors the box “Cannot place this file. No filter found for the requested operation” comes up.
I’ve tried opening this on two versions of indesign (14.0.3 and 15.1.3) turning computer on and off, cloning the linked files and linking them from a new path, none of the names have odd characters in them nor have they been renamed from what they were called when they were working not long ago.
Any help appreciated!
